Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. I thinks its disadavntages outweigh advantages, like it will follow rules and it will drive with ease, but some drawbacks like cyber attacks, malfunction if one car shows abnormal behaviour then lives will be at risk and also it will take the jobs of many drivers.

firtsly it will make the life of normal people easy, like you have to put a destination and the car will suggest you route and willl take you by following all traffic rules and moving in within the speed limit without wasting any human enegy,.however, one disadvantage is if any malfunction hapens in the car it would cost many lives for example if one car brakes faill and hit with the other one it will cost many lives and als peole will not trust that car again. For example One time a driver in honda car hit another on the road and the airbags failed to work which costs 2 llivs and also the company stocks drop to the ground overnight beacuse people nomore trust those cars if it could fail once it can be twice.

furthermore , ifit drives you with ease and follow all the rules still it a machine connected with the internet so the main control gets in the wrong hands thenit will be a catatrophic disaster by taking lives of many people using it.These were the design drawbacks,it will also bring inflation as car, buses and truck drivers willl lose their jobs and will face a hard time which will effect the country eceonomy .

there are advatages of driverless vehiclesbut disadvantafges outweigh them,In my opinion the manual driving is the best as there should be no compromise on human lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, and you address both sides of the question. You identify convenience and rule-following as benefits, then discuss malfunction, cyberattacks and drivers losing their jobs. The Honda example also attempts to support your concern about safety. However, some points are less fully developed than others: the example about a driver’s airbags failing does not clearly show how a driverless vehicle would malfunction, and the economic effect of job losses is asserted rather than explained. Develop each reason with a direct link to driverless technology and explain why its consequences outweigh the convenience benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an overall structure: an opening position, discussion of benefits and risks, and a concluding opinion. Connectors such as “Firstly,” “furthermore” and “In my opinion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is not always clear. The first body paragraph moves from convenience to mechanical failure and then to company stocks, while the next combines cyberattacks with unemployment and inflation. Some links are mechanical or unclear, and the conclusion is very brief. Give each paragraph one main focus, use clear topic sentences, and explain how each example supports that paragraph’s point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “malfunction,” “cyber attacks,” “traffic rules,” “speed limit” and “inflation,” which helps communicate the main concerns. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the main control gets in the wrong hands,” “it will bring inflation” and “the company stocks drop to the ground.” Spelling errors—including “disadavntages,” “catatrophic” and “eceonomy”—also make the writing less fluent to read. Build a more precise set of collocations for safety, employment and economic effects, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “if any malfunction happens in the car it would cost many lives.” This shows an effort to express cause and consequence, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “I thinks,” “if one car shows abnormal behaviour then lives will be at risk,” and “drivers will lose their jobs and will face a hard time which will effect the country economy.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, particularly where several ideas are joined with commas. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, conditional forms and sentence boundaries, and divide long sentences into clearer units.
