Student answer (Band 5.5)

The topic of debate is that will the advantages of driverless vehicles ouweigh the disadvantages. In my opinion there far more advantages with very few disadvantages.

If we talk about driverless vehicles which will eventually become very popular vehicles in upcoming decades. They would totally dominate the vehicle markets. Other vehicles who will need a driver to run will be almost vanished from the market over the period of time. Main benefits are less dependant on others. Today a large group of people can not drive a car. These include mainly people who are very young and people who are too old. A large group of women also can not drive. However, if you look at mobile phone almost everyone can use it. The same would go on with driverless vehicles. People would no longer need an extra person for their travels. Which would eventually make travelling way more easier than ever before.

Like any other great thing it has a numerous amount of advantages but it also has some disadvantages. The first big impactful disadvantage is that it would take many jobs and proffessional drivers would become jobless. The world is already facing employment crisis all over the globe. Another disadvantage is that driverless vehicles need more maintainance and technology can make errors. These vehicles would also cost more than normal vehicles.

Overall, it has both disadvantages and advantages. Advantages clearly are the winner here. This would be a great invention which would change the life of humanity in a very positive way in perspective of travelling.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and you identify relevant points, including greater independence for people who cannot drive, job losses for professional drivers, maintenance needs, technical errors and higher costs. However, the advantages are not fully explained or supported. For example, the comparison with mobile-phone use does not show why driverless vehicles would be easy or safe for everyone to use, and the claim that they would dominate the market is asserted rather than justified. The disadvantages are also listed briefly without weighing their likely impact against the benefits. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example, and make the comparison between advantages and disadvantages more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate discussion of benefits and drawbacks, and a concluding opinion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the benefits paragraph moves from future popularity to market dominance, then to independence, without clearly connecting these claims. Some linking is mechanical, as in “Like any other great thing,” and the conclusion repeats the view that advantages win without summarising the reasoning. The sentence beginning “Which would eventually make travelling…” is also detached from the preceding idea. Organise each paragraph around one central point, use clearer references between sentences, and explain how each example supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “driverless vehicles,” “professional drivers,” “employment crisis” and “technology can make errors.” There are also attempts at more emphatic phrasing, such as “dominate the vehicle markets” and “a great invention.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which makes parts of the argument less natural: “less dependant on others,” “more easier,” and “a numerous amount of advantages.” Spelling errors such as “ouweigh,” “proffessional” and “maintainance” are noticeable. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for instance, explain that the vehicles could increase “independence” rather than saying “less dependant.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in sentence formation and agreement. The opening “The topic of debate is that will…” uses an incorrect indirect-question structure; write “The topic of debate is whether…”. “In my opinion there far more advantages” is missing a verb, while “If we talk about driverless vehicles which will eventually become…” is an incomplete sentence. The fragment “Which would eventually make travelling…” should be joined to the previous sentence. There are also errors in “a large group of women also can not drive” and “it has a numerous amount.” Practise complete clauses and accurate sentence patterns, then proofread for missing verbs and agreement.
