Student answer (Band 6.0)

In coming years, the personal and public as well as trucks will be self-driving. The individuals travelling within the transport will be travellers. Its merits and demerits will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs. However, I believe that advantages surpass its disadvantages.

To commence with disadvantages, The first and foremost demerit is less employment opportunities. To explicate it, if individuals started using automated vehicles then it will reduce the need for drivers. Mostly car and bus driver has risk of losing jobs. It will put burden on them. and worsen the condition of their living. For instance, thousands of drivers struggle to find alternative employment if transport companies completely replace the human drivers. As a result, it will bad impact on the lives of driversas well as their family.

Shifting towards the advantages, The predominant merit is it reduce the road accidents. In other words, human errors are the main cause of accidents on roads. AI technology follow traffic rules strictly and detects obstacles earlier as compare to humans. It also reduces the chances of accidents caused by fatigue, distraction and over-speeding of the vehicles. Furthermore, It provide convenience to passengers. To explain it, because they are able to do alot of entertaining activities with their friends and families. It is especially useful for elderly people and people who suffers from disabilities. To illustrate, A survey conducted by the Ministry of Road transport and Highways noticed that alot of individuals suffer from disabilities and it is also nightmare to drive in roads of India due to high traffic congestion.

In conclusion, although driverless vehicles reduce the need for drivers but also it reduce the chances of accidents as well as offer convenience to passengers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and you address both sides with relevant points. The employment concern is explained through the possibility of drivers losing work, while reduced accidents and greater convenience are presented as benefits. These points answer the question, and the examples about fatigue, distraction and passengers with disabilities help support them. However, some ideas are asserted more than developed: the employment paragraph could explain how widespread job losses might be managed, and the convenience point needs a clearer example of what passengers could do or how accessibility improves. The survey reference is also vague and does not clearly demonstrate the claimed benefit. More balanced, specific development would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on disadvantages, a paragraph on advantages and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To commence with disadvantages” and “Shifting towards the advantages” makes the direction easy to follow, and the conclusion returns to your main position. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. However, some linking is mechanical, and the sequence within the advantages paragraph moves quickly from accident prevention to convenience without fully connecting the ideas. The example about Indian traffic and disability is not clearly tied to the preceding explanation. Improve cohesion by using more natural transitions, making pronoun references explicit, and ensuring each example directly supports the point it follows.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “automated vehicles,” “human errors,” “fatigue,” “distraction” and “traffic congestion,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “predominant merit.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the personal and public as well as trucks,” “bad impact,” and “nightmare to drive in roads.” Repetition of “individuals,” “drivers” and “advantages” also limits flexibility. Some errors make the reader pause to interpret the intended meaning, so greater control of natural combinations is needed. Prefer precise, familiar expressions over formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if individuals started using automated vehicles” and explanations introduced by “because.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “it reduce the road accidents” and “AI technology follow” need subject–verb agreement, while “people who suffers” has a mismatch between the plural subject and verb. The sentence beginning “It will put burden on them. and worsen…” also has faulty punctuation and sentence construction. These issues sometimes interrupt fluency. Review agreement and verb forms, and proofread punctuation; then practise combining related ideas into accurate complex sentences.
