Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, technology is developing rapidly, and it is believed that in the future all cars, buses, and trucks will be driverless. Although this change may have some disadvantages, I believe that the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages.
One major advantage of driverless vehicles is that they can improve road safety. Human errors such as speeding, careless driving, and using mobile phones while driving cause many accidents every year. Driverless vehicles can follow traffic rules and reduce these mistakes. Another benefit is that passengers can use their travel time to work, study, or relax instead of focusing on driving.
However, there are also some disadvantages. Many professional drivers, such as taxi, bus, and truck drivers, may lose their jobs because these vehicles will not require human drivers. In addition, some people may not trust this technology and may worry about technical problems or system failures.
In conclusion, although driverless vehicles may lead to unemployment and some safety concerns related to technology, I believe their ability to reduce accidents and make travelling more comfortable makes the advantages greater than the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages and clearly states a position. However, the essay is significantly under-length at 181 words, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This prevents the development of ideas to the level required for a higher band. While the points regarding road safety and unemployment are relevant, they are presented in a very brief manner without sufficient supporting examples or detailed explanation. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific real-world examples or hypothetical scenarios to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One major advantage', 'Another benefit', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to link your ideas. While the structure is clear, the progression is somewhat mechanical due to the brevity of the text. To achieve a higher score, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother and more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'driverless vehicles', 'professional drivers', and 'system failures' appropriately. The language is generally natural and conveys your meaning clearly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks the range of less common or idiomatic expressions that would be expected at a higher band level. To improve, focus on incorporating more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating basic words like 'advantages' and 'disadvantages' throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good level of grammatical control. You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Although this change may have some disadvantages, I believe that...' and 'Human errors such as... cause many accidents'. There are very few grammatical errors, and your punctuation is generally accurate. While the range of structures is sufficient for the current length, you should aim to incorporate more complex grammatical forms, such as passive voice or conditional structures, to demonstrate greater flexibility and reach a higher band score.
