Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a day AI are grown very rapidly. It is said that in future all car, trucks and buses will driverless and only passenger will travel in these cars. I think the advantage of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages.

There are many advantages of driverless vehicles such as improved road safety. Since most road accidents are caused by human error such as speeding, careless driving and using mobile phone while driving. self-driving vehicles can reduce the number of accidents. Furthermore, passenger can use their travel time to work, study or relax some time instead of focusing on driving.

However, there are also some disadvantages of driverless car. Many professional drivers such as taxi, bus and truck drivers can lose their jobs because of this technology. In addition, driverless vehicles based on advance software so technical error or cyberattacks can make safety risks. Despite these concerns I believe that technological improvement will solve many of these problems in the future.

In conclusion, although driverless vehicles may cause unemployment and technical challenges, I believe their benefits especially improved safety and greater convenience are much more significant. Therefore, the advantage outweighs the disadvantage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages and clearly states a position. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas regarding safety and unemployment are relevant, they are not sufficiently developed or supported with detailed examples. The conclusion is brief and lacks a comprehensive summary of the main points. To improve, you must expand on your arguments by providing specific scenarios or evidence, ensuring you meet the word count to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a logical flow from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and repetitive (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'However', 'In addition'). To achieve a higher band, you should aim for a more varied range of linking words and ensure that referencing between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be strengthened by adding more supporting sentences to connect the ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'human error', 'cyberattacks', and 'technological improvement'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'Now a day AI are grown very rapidly'. To improve, you should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary. Avoid repetitive structures and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to demonstrate a broader lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'all car, trucks and buses will driverless' is missing a verb, and 'driverless vehicles based on advance software' should be 'are based on advanced software'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage also need attention (e.g., 'AI are grown'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction and verb forms.
