Student answer (Band 6.5)

Among the population, more than half of the population like to travel. I would say, the amount of money one spend for travelling will be half of the their life time earning. So, everyone likes to see different places. But the difficult part of travelling is driving yourself. But, if the future is being in a driverless era, I would think it will be amazing. In my opinion, it has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Firstly, the advantage is that you could enjoy your trip. You are not tired being driving kilometers or hours. One would feel fresh and you can sit , relax and enjoy every bit of the second, rather than concentrating on the road or moving like a tortoise in the heavy traffic.

Another factor of being driverless is that you miss the human interaction, especially if you are travelling by yourself in a new city, there is no one to interact or ask something. You need to blindly relay on the technology, believing that you are going to the right place where you are supposed to go. As an example, I have seen a video were the system failure occured and people got stuck inside until human help arrived.

Lastly, the advancements in technology has also proved that safety is the top notch priority. In the most modern vehicles, they have these safety system were if the driver sleeps, it alerts you and also it can detect even the minute changes in humans and save life of people.

Overall, according to my opinion, i would prefer to select a car with a driver rather than being in driverless car. The compassion and empathy that a human can feel and provide cannot be provided by a machine.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The introduction is quite tangential, focusing on travel habits rather than the topic of driverless vehicles. While you provide relevant points—such as relaxation for the advantage and loss of human interaction for the disadvantage—the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The conclusion clearly states your position, but the overall structure feels more like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument weighing the pros and cons. To reach a higher band, ensure every sentence directly relates to the prompt and expand on your ideas with more detailed explanations or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Another factor', and 'Lastly'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs is weak. The transition from the introduction to the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the sudden mention of a video example without sufficient context. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advancements', 'priority', and 'compassion'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'being driving kilometers' and 'blindly relay on'. The phrase 'top notch priority' is slightly informal for an academic essay. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more sophisticated academic vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the amount of money one spend'), article misuse, and awkward sentence construction ('the system failure occured'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
