Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, technology is rapidly increasing in every field. In this era of artificial intelligence, some people believe that all vehicles will be autonomous in future and the only persons travelling inside the car, buses and trucks will be passengers. There are various merits and demerits of this rapid development. This essay will analyse the reasons behind my perspective along with the examples in the subsequent paragraphs.

On the one hand, one of the major pros of this technology is convenience. Individuals who are unable to drive such as older people and who do not know driving, they have a benefit as they can travel anywhere, without any driver. They can also utilise their travelling time in other substitute work or they can rest and relax at the time of travelling. Therefore, driverless cars will be a symbol of convenience and relaxation for every generation. Moreover, autonomous vehicles will be less prone to risk as it will be drove by a robot which will always follow traffic rules and regulations. There will be less traffic congestions. AI will keep safe distance between to vehicle, follow accurate speed and efficient route. As a result, there will minimum chance of accidents.

On the other hand, this is undeniable that automatic driverless vehicles will create unemployment. Drivers of buses, cars and trucks will be jobless and people will be more and more dependent on the technology rather than hiring drivers. Machine may get failures at the critical circumstances whereas human drivers can deal with on-time situations. This may lead to increase in crime rates of the region. . For instance, in Japan, drivers are losing their jobs and migrating to other countries in search of jobs due to unemployment created by driverless cars.

In conclusion, this is evident that the advantages of driverless technologies provide convenience, luxury and stress free life which outweigh the disadvantages unemployment caused by autonomous vehicles.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering convenience and safety as benefits, and unemployment and technical failure as drawbacks. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about unemployment is supported by a brief example regarding Japan, but the argument could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion is clear and summarizes the main stance effectively. Overall, the response is well-focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages and disadvantages. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'they have a benefit' in the second paragraph, which lacks a clear antecedent. Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'autonomous', 'artificial intelligence', and 'traffic congestions'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'substitute work' instead of 'alternative activities' or 'productive tasks', and 'drove by a robot' (should be 'driven'). While you attempt to use a range of vocabulary, the control is not always precise. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'in this era' used twice in the opening sentences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'it will be drove by a robot' (passive voice error), 'between to vehicle' (preposition/pluralization error), and 'this is undeniable that' (should be 'it is undeniable that'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in verb forms and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent use of passive voice.
