Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many countries have been made driverless vehicles. Although this technology has some problems but it can be solved, I believe that the advantage of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages because they can improve road safety and make the transportation more easy.

One of the major advantage of the driverless vehicles is that they can reduce the number of road accident. Most of the accidents are happens due to the human errors such as driving the vehicles very fast, drunk driving or using mobiles while driving . Most of the vehicles uses advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to follow the traffic rules and avoid accidents. For example, a self driving car can automatically stops when someone is crossing the road. By this way many lives are saved.

Another benefit is that driverless vehicles can make travelling easier and more comfortable. The passengers can relax, work or read any books during travelling. In addition, older people and disabled people can travel with the help of the driverless vehicles. For instance, an older person who is unable to drive can be a benefit this because driverless vehicles can help them to visit the hospital without depending on others.

In conclusion, if people thinks that technical failures and job losses, I believe that the benefits of driverless vehicles are greater than the drawbacks because they can increase road safety and provide greater help to people with disability.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages of driverless vehicles, such as safety and convenience. However, the position is not fully developed, and the discussion of disadvantages is limited to a brief mention in the conclusion. The essay is also under the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the development of ideas and the overall task completion. To improve, you should provide a more balanced argument by dedicating a full paragraph to potential disadvantages, such as technical failures or job displacement, and ensure you meet the word count to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'One of the major advantage', 'Another benefit', 'In addition'). Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'artificial intelligence' and 'sensors', but there are several word-choice errors, such as 'many countries have been made driverless vehicles' (should be 'have developed') and 'can be a benefit this' (should be 'can benefit from this'). The repetition of basic words like 'vehicles' and 'help' limits the sophistication of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('accidents are happens', 'people thinks') and incorrect verb forms ('have been made'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with spacing and sentence construction. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will help improve your accuracy.
