Student answer (Band 6.0)

Technological advancements are expected to transform the transportation industry, making driverless cars, buses and trucks a reality in future. Despite the disadvantages associated with this development, I believe that the advantages are considerably greater.

The primary advantage of driverless vehicles is that they could significantly improve road safety. Human errors such as distraction, fatigue and speeding are the key reason for accidents. Automation can continue monitor the situation and give accurate quickly solutions to it. Additionally, passengers would be able to use their travelling time more productively. They can relax or complete their works during the driving without taking any stress.

A further benefit is that this technology helps efficiently to the elder and disable people who face difficulties while driving. Driverless vehicles make them feel more independent and access to transportation without relying on another person to drive them.

However, the introduction of automatic vehicle could have some negative consequences. The most obvious concern is job replacement. Millions of people work as taxi drivers, bus drivers and truck drivers, and many of these jobs could disappear if Autonomous technology becomes widely adopted. This could lead to unemployment and financial difficulties for the workers who do not have other work-skills. Another disadvantage is that these vehicles would depend heavily on sophisticated computer systems. Technical failures, software errors or cyberattacks could potentially cause serious disruptions and accidents.

In conclusion, although driverless vehicles may create some challenges, i believe that the advantages of this technolgy outweigh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, maintaining a clear position throughout. However, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence in the conclusion. Furthermore, the word count is 244 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum requirement. While the ideas regarding safety, productivity, and job displacement are relevant and well-structured, the failure to complete the essay significantly impacts the development of the final argument and the overall task completion. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are fully addressed and that the essay reaches the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a clear focus, moving from benefits to drawbacks. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'A further benefit', and 'However' are used effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the argument. However, because the essay is incomplete, the final paragraph lacks a proper concluding statement, which disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. Improving the transition between the final points and ensuring a finished conclusion would elevate this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You have used some topic-specific terms like 'technological advancements', 'autonomous technology', and 'cyberattacks'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'efficiently to the elder and disable people' (should be 'the elderly and disabled') and 'give accurate quickly solutions' (should be 'provide accurate and quick solutions'). While the range is sufficient to convey your meaning, incorporating more precise collocations and varied academic vocabulary would help demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'can continue monitor' (should be 'can continue to monitor'), 'complete their works' (should be 'complete their work'), and 'introduction of automatic vehicle' (should be 'introduction of autonomous vehicles'). Punctuation is generally fine, but the incomplete final sentence is a significant issue. While these errors do not usually impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of plural/singular nouns.
