Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the coming years, all vehicles will be driverless such as, cars, buses and trucks. In that particular vehicles only passenger will travel. I strongly believe that this statement has more benefits than drawbacks. This essay highlights the advantages and disadvantages with valid explanations and examples.

On the one hand, (IOT) Internet of Things will play a crucial role in the future to execute this concept. There will be several benefits if this plane really works such as, if technology advances due to that the employment of technical individuals will increase. Moreover, the road accidents will be fewer, because the vehicles will have the sensors all over the vehicles, that will stop the cars or trucks automatically and traffic jams issues will also reduce. In addition, all these vehicles will be driverless so, the individuals can utilize their travelling time to do their pending work. Also, this technology will be essential for the people who are blind.

On the other hand, the future of the driver is in danger if this concept takes place. They will be jobless due to the driverless cars or trucks and it will be a big loss to the households. Furthermore, there will be the possibilities of technical errors in the vehicles, due to this sometimes fear will haunt. For instance, in 2016, China recorded few accidents of vehicles of this technology and the reason was minor technical faults.

In conclusion, this technology will bring several benefits such as, time management, beneficial for blind people and many more. However, due to this the jobs of drivers will be at risk and the fear of technical errors will haunt. Although the, advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as increased safety, time management, and the economic impact on drivers. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the mention of 'technical individuals' and 'employment' is vague and lacks specific explanation. The essay would benefit from more detailed elaboration on how exactly the transition to driverless vehicles would create these jobs. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments remain at a surface level, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', though some are used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way. The referencing is generally clear, although some sentence transitions feel a bit abrupt. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task, meeting the requirements for a band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'execute this concept' and 'technical errors'. However, there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'if this plane really works' (likely meaning 'plan') and 'fear will haunt'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the limited range of vocabulary keeps the score at a 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'In that particular vehicles only passenger will travel' (should be 'In those particular vehicles, only passengers will travel') and 'the road accidents will be fewer, because the vehicles will have the sensors all over the vehicles, that will stop...'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses.
