Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, but the position is not clearly maintained. The introduction states that advantages and disadvantages are 'at par,' which is a neutral stance rather than a clear opinion. While the essay covers relevant points like convenience for the elderly and job loss, the development is somewhat superficial. The conclusion merely lists points rather than synthesising the argument. To improve, you should clearly state your position in the introduction and ensure that each body paragraph provides a well-developed argument that directly supports your overall stance, rather than simply listing pros and cons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For example, the frequent use of 'Also' and 'These cars' at the start of sentences creates a repetitive flow. There are also issues with referencing; in the second paragraph, the pronoun 'they' is used inconsistently, making it unclear whether it refers to the vehicles or the passengers. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns to improve the logical flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'driverness' (driverless), 'passanger' (passenger), 'prespective' (perspective), 'forecoming' (forthcoming), 'distantion' (distance), 'windey' (windy), and 'maintance' (maintenance). Additionally, some word choices are awkward, such as 'at par' or 'technical cost for make'. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and ensure accurate spelling. Focus on learning collocations related to technology and transportation to express your ideas more naturally and precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'disadvantages includes'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'do not now driving' instead of 'do not know how to drive'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage. Practising the use of complex sentences with correct subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your score.
