Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern world, some individuals believe that the technology is crucial for everyone and Artificial intelligence will be installed in their vehicles and all vehicles will become driverless. At the end, there will be only travelers in the vehicle, no one will be the driver. This issue has become increasingly common and has attracted significant public attention. It has become a topic of widespread debate due to its impact on individuals and society in the long term. This essay will discuss both advantages and disadvantages and state my opinion.

To commence, one of the major advantages is that the accident will be reduced and people can easily travel there destination without facing any traffic. This is because artificial intelligence will be programmed to avoid traffic and do not create noise pollution. In addition, the driver cost will be reduced in a public transports and the government used that money into several works. Moreover, some of the transport company adapting these features, such as Tesla, it was a first company, who invented the first driverless car and now it will be available in multiple countries. Hence, it can be beneficial for individuals and society in the long term.

On the other hand, one of the major disadvantages is that the unemployment rate will be increased and drivers can't survive because of the artificial intelligence, it will harm their job. However, the hacking is another concerned for public, these types of vehicles can be hacked by hacker and they will misuse for asking ransom money. Moreover, the servicing cost will be increased due to the understanding of technology is only done by their company service partners. They will also hamper the small mechanic businesses. As a result, it may create several problems in the long term.

In my opinion, every innovation has its own drawbacks, like the vacuum machine was invented and then the human helper job will hamper in the long term. Although, a driverless car will create several problems to the drivers in their income but there will be plenty of advantage of AI cars such as traffic jam will be reduced, no noise pollutions and air pollutions will hamper the environment and that's why the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing both advantages and disadvantages before clearly stating a position. The ideas are relevant, such as reduced traffic and unemployment concerns. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'noise pollution' and 'air pollution' is mentioned but not explained in depth. The conclusion is clear, but the comparison to vacuum cleaners is a bit simplistic and does not fully support the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims rather than listing several points briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'At the end' in the introduction, which is not the standard way to introduce a topic. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for instance, in the second paragraph, 'the government used that money' lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'artificial intelligence', 'unemployment rate', and 'ransom money'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'the accident will be reduced' should be 'the number of accidents will be reduced', and 'the servicing cost will be increased' is better phrased as 'maintenance costs will rise'. You also repeat words like 'long term' and 'hamper' frequently. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and varying your vocabulary to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the technology', 'the hacking'), subject-verb agreement ('the government used that money'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For instance, 'Tesla, it was a first company' is grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some comma splices present. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
