Student answer (Band 6.5)

n next few decades, there is a huge possibility that various modes of transport will be operated without the need of human intervention. Only passengers would be a part of those transports. The advantages of this innovation do surpass the disadvantages, my reasons are stated further.

As the world is shifting towards more technology theme utopia, driverless cars, bus and trucks are another product of it. One major advantage of this idea is that it would lead to less accidents as it would be operated by machine rather than being influenced by humans. As all will follow traffic rules, there will be no more constant need of attention on roads by humans who can easily become tired or sleepy. Moreover, the brains behind developing this machines can make something to benefit humanity by taking inspiration from it. One instance where this driverless transport being helpful would be in logistics sector and would drastically improve efficiency in tasks.

However, this can hurt financial stability of many families who rely on being driver as their profession, also delivery drivers and transportation sector willl be affected by it. Also there is no specific guidelines on who will take responsibility of an accident or of an unforseen circumstance which would be due to this driverless vehicles. The affected employees can be transitoned and can be taught different skills which would support other workforce sector. Additonally, the cost of implementing these idea and making the process as safely as possible would be time consuming and expensive.

I can confidently conclude that even if some employment sector will be affected, we can not ignore the advantages this driverless modes presents such as safety and efficiency. We as a society need to me more welcoming of this features which would improve and benefit us.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as increased safety and efficiency versus job displacement and liability issues. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'brains behind developing this machines' is vague and lacks clear explanation. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining a clear stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Additionally' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the benefits to the drawbacks and then to a conclusion. Referencing is mostly clear, though there are minor issues with pronoun consistency, such as 'this innovation' and 'this idea' being used interchangeably. Overall, the structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the argument without confusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'human intervention', 'logistics sector', and 'financial stability'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'technology theme utopia' and 'making the process as safely as possible'. Spelling errors like 'willl' and 'Additonally' occur, though they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and ensure consistent spelling of common linking words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the logistics sector'), pluralization ('developing this machines', 'this features'), and subject-verb agreement ('this driverless modes presents'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas in complex sentences. The errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures would help improve this score.
