Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the future, all types of vehicles will be automated. Travelers will be the only people inside all types of cars, buses and trucks. Although it has certain drawbacks but I believe that advantages outweigh the disadvantages in this case.
One of the benefits of driverless cars is that they do not run on fuel. As petrol is not needed by these types of vehicles, there will be less no carbon emission by these cars. Therefore, carbon dioxide amount will start decreasing day by day in the future which will ultimately reduce global warming. For example, a number of automated cars needs to be charged instead of using fuel. So, it is an example of sustainable development which will help in mitigating the problem of climate change. Additionally, automated vehicles will help the elderly and disabled persons to travel without the news of a driver. They do not have to hire anyone to take them from one place to another. For instance, automated vehicles will allow the older people to enjoy their journey just by sitting at their place without any effort.
Although 90% of accidents are caused by human error and automated vehicles help in reducing these problems. However, these vehicles are not fully reliable because they need constant inspection from time to time. Tesla is the best example of this. It is not a fully automated vehicle but if its sensors will stop working, it can result in accidents. That's why, they still the constant attention of driver to reduce these accidents.
To conclude, driverless cars can cause accidents sometimes when there is a failure in it's sensor system but advantages of these cars are more significant. They help in reducing the pollution in the atmosphere and help conserve the ecosystem. It can also assist older people in their travelling without depending on other persons.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas regarding environmental benefits and accessibility for the elderly are relevant and supported with examples. However, the development of the disadvantages is somewhat limited and slightly contradictory; for instance, the essay mentions that 90% of accidents are caused by human error, but then focuses on the technical failures of sensors. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused on the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'For instance', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the transition in the third paragraph: 'Although 90% of accidents are caused by human error and automated vehicles help in reducing these problems. However, these vehicles are not fully reliable...'. The use of 'However' after an 'Although' clause is grammatically redundant and disrupts the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'automated', 'carbon emission', 'sustainable development', and 'sensor system'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'without the news of a driver' (likely meant 'need') and 'it's sensor system' (incorrect use of the apostrophe). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including 'Although it has certain drawbacks but I believe' (double conjunction), 'carbon dioxide amount will start' (missing article), and 'they still the constant attention' (missing verb). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though the misuse of the apostrophe in 'it's' is a recurring error. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student demonstrates a reasonable grasp of grammar, but control is not consistent.
