In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
advantages -- driverless vehicles provide relaxation and flexibility. people who are travelling to their office or other who are in the position of import/export executive are driving on daily basis. These driverless vehicles give them time listening to music which naturally calm their mind or one can have quick bites of breakfast during commute time. For example, a person who often go to trips provide their more attention to their kids and family member as they need to pay less attention towards driving. driverless cars, buses and trucks could make travelling more convenient while reducing the stress associated with daily driving.
Disadvantages -- malfunctions in driverless vehicles can be life-threatening. These vehicles rely heavily on software, sensors and artificial intelligence to detect obstacles and make driving decisions. If the system fails, the vehicle may not respond correctly to unexpected situations. For example, if the software fails to detect a pedestrian or suddenly misinterprets a traffic signal, it could cause a serious accident.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits your ability to develop your ideas. While you identify both advantages and disadvantages, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack a clear introduction or conclusion. The prompt asks for your opinion on whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, but you do not explicitly state a position. To improve, you must expand each point with more detailed explanations and examples, and ensure you provide a clear, consistent stance throughout the essay. The current length prevents a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is structured into two distinct sections, which helps with readability, but the lack of an introduction and conclusion makes the overall flow disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices (such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'however') to link sentences and ideas together. The progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical, and the absence of a clear thesis statement makes the logical development of the argument difficult to follow. You should focus on using transition words to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'provide relaxation' and 'make travelling more convenient' are functional but lack the sophistication expected at higher bands. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'other who are in the position of import/export executive', which is awkward. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to technology and transportation, and work on more natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is generally understandable, but there are frequent errors in sentence structure and punctuation. For example, 'a person who often go to trips' should be 'goes on trips', and there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement throughout. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, while ensuring they are punctuated correctly.
