Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely recognized that technology will more advanced to all cars, buses and trucks will be completely replace human drivers, turning everyone into passengers. In my opinion, the unique benefits of this fully automated transportation system will greatly outweigh the minor disadvatages.

To put forward the benefits, the fully automatic vehicles is the more improvement in daily road safety. Many human errors, such as driving while use mobile phones, tired and nervous, or under the influence of alcohol, cause the majority of accidents today. Moreover, intelligent computer system do not experience tired or loss of focus, meaning they can react much faster to unexpected situations significant lower global rates of crash. To epitome it clearly, elderly individuals and people with severe disabilities will finally gain the absolute freedom to travel safely whenever they want without relying on others.

On the other hand, we must consider some serious disadvantages before implementing this system everywhere. The most urgent concern is massive unemployment among professional drivers. For instance, thousands of delivery workers and taxi drivers risk losing their regular jobs very quickly, creating major economic strain for many families. Additionally, there are valid public fears regarding sudden technology failures. A notable software glitch during early driverless shuttle trials caused severe traffic blockages, proving that system bugs or external cyber threats could potentially cause dangerous accidents if networks fail.

In conclusion, while transitioning to driverless vehicles will create economic challenges for transport workers and pose technical risks, the long-term rewards are far more valuable. I believe that Saving human lives through safer roads and providing accessible transportation options makes this future technology highly beneficial for everyone. This technology will more merits outweigh the demerits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering safety benefits for the elderly and disabled, as well as economic and technical concerns. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the argument regarding 'massive unemployment' is mentioned but could be further extended with more specific consequences or potential solutions to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reinforces the writer's stance, ensuring the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'To epitome it clearly', which is not a standard cohesive device and sounds unnatural. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits and drawbacks.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'fully automated', 'economic strain', and 'cyber threats'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'will more advanced to all cars' (should be 'will advance to the point where all cars') and 'To epitome it clearly' (should be 'To illustrate this clearly'). These errors do not impede communication but prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the fully automatic vehicles is the more improvement' (subject-verb agreement and comparative error), 'driving while use mobile phones' (should be 'using'), and 'do not experience tired' (should be 'fatigue'). These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of adjectives versus nouns.
