Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people believe that all cars, buses, and trucks will become driverless in the future. The only people traveling inside these vehicles will be passengers. Although this method has some drawbacks, I believe that the advantages in terms of helping disabled people and reducing the number of road accidents outweigh the disadvantages.
One major advantages of having driverless vehicles is that it will reduce the number of road accidents occurring annually. This is because humans do not have the capabilities to look at the blind spots and every corner of a vehicle, this increases the chance of an accident. For example, driverless cars run with the help of sensors, cameras, and software, which detect the surroundings of a car before making any decisions. As a result, driverless vehicles can make fewer mistakes and reduce the chance of an accident. Another benefit is that it will help disabled people to travel independently to their destination. If a wheelchair person wants to travel to another location with the help of his own car, they can use driverless mode to travel without any difficulties by only setting a destination route.
However, there are certain drawbacks to consider. The major concern is that software and sensors based vehicles may have some technical issues. If a system failure occurs and a vehicle suddenly stops in the middle of the road, it may lead to a major problem. This may create excessive traffic jams or may even lead to an accident. Additionally, this will create the lack of driving skills for the younger generations. People will become more dependent on driverless vehicles and may not develop the necessary driving skills. However, this can be a major problem when a human intervention is required for safety purposes.
In conclusion, while driverless vehicles may have some disadvantages such as reducing driving skills and technical issues, its benefit in terms of helping disabled people and reducing accidents are more significant. Therefore, I strongly believe that the advantages of having driverless vehicles clearly outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, particularly the points regarding road safety and accessibility for disabled individuals. The arguments are extended with logical explanations, such as the mention of sensors and cameras. However, the development could be slightly more sophisticated; for instance, the point about the loss of driving skills is a strong idea but could be expanded further to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question regarding whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as the benefits of safety or the drawbacks of technical failure. Cohesive devices are used effectively, including transition signals like 'Additionally', 'However', and 'As a result'. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate. While the flow is generally good, some transitions could be more varied to avoid a slightly mechanical feel, but the overall structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. You have used some topic-specific terminology such as 'sensors', 'software', 'blind spots', and 'human intervention'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'a wheelchair person' (should be 'a person in a wheelchair') and 'create the lack of' (should be 'lead to a lack of'). While the range is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations or less common academic vocabulary would help elevate the score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and the meaning is never obscured by errors. However, there are some recurring grammatical slips, such as 'One major advantages' (should be 'advantage') and 'software and sensors based vehicles' (should be 'software- and sensor-based vehicles'). While you attempt complex sentences, some are slightly clunky. To achieve a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of hyphens and prepositions in complex noun phrases.
