Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the coming years there is a hope that all vehicles including cars, buses and trucks will be self-driving. There will be only passengers who would be travelling inside these automobiles. This is the consequence of the innovation as it is unimaginable without these edge-cutting gadgets. This essay will elucidate the vital role of technologies and how they are reshaping our lifestyle.

In this contemporary society, driverless vehicles are becoming prevalent due to their advantages. there are a substantial number of reasons why it is happening. First and foremost, a car that is without a driver will provide you a sense of protection. Having a car all to yourself will safegaurd our security especially at nights. Secondly, it is convenient way of renting or booking a car that has no limitation of a driver. Lastly, it will save us a lot of time as we can do multitasking while travelling including reading books or making assignments. To illustrate, if we run out of gas midnight, we can have an option to book driverless cars that can drop us to our home without any issue.

Contrarily, driverless automation also have a few cons that are exacerbating the significance of digital tools. There are plethora of causes of this crises. In addition, in case of an accident, there will be no one to supply medical assistance. In repercussion, we will jeopardize our health. From my perspective, the pros outweigh the cons as citizens are really used to these technology. The results are becoming inevitable. They are ubiquitous and are available 24/7. Government should implement various policies that should protect the nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'security' is vague, and the point about 'medical assistance' in accidents is not fully explored or logically supported. While a position is stated, the reasoning lacks depth and specific, real-world evidence. The essay tends to over-generalize, and some points, such as the claim that driverless cars are 'hatching the occupation of several drivers,' are phrased awkwardly, which slightly obscures the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the advantages, then the disadvantages, and finally the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'In repercussion' is not standard English, and the use of 'Contrarily' at the start of the third paragraph is slightly awkward. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'The results are becoming inevitable,' where it is not immediately obvious what 'results' refers to. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items like 'prevalent,' 'ubiquitous,' and 'exacerbating.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors that hinder the sophistication of the writing. For example, 'edge-cutting gadgets' should be 'cutting-edge,' and 'hatching the occupation' is an incorrect collocation for describing job loss. There are also spelling errors such as 'safegaurd' and 'plethora of causes of this crises' (should be 'crises' or 'crisis'). While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary lacks the precision and natural control required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'driverless automation also have a few cons'), article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'a person who is travelling via cars in which there is a driver accessible, he can save us'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in sentence construction that require the reader to re-read to grasp the meaning. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
