Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the future, it is predicted that all the vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks and so on as people will not be needed to drive their cars manually. In this regard, there are a few disadvantages of the notion but I believe that the forthcoming advantages will completely outweigh the demerits.
On the one hand, road fatalities along with the occurrence of traffic will reduce significantly as the software of the automated cars will be linked and coordinated with each other to prevent these types of uncertainties on the road. Also, people will have more time to do productive tasks because time spent by them driving cars will now be available of them so they can utilize it for other important tasks. Moreover, the older population will have a chance to travel in vehicles as now this population does not know how to drive these vehicles and they will be encouraged to travel to destinations that they desire.
In addition, human errors such as distractions, drunk driving and panic in situations will be completely eliminated by the automated driver-less cars. As a result people will become only passengers and will not have to worry about the uncertainties that could arise.
On the other hand, there are a few considerations to be made about the notion. As cars will be operated through computerized or artificial intelligence systems, hackers could be a major threat for people as they could illegally get the controls of the vehicles to perform dangerous tasks such as stealing or accidents. Also, regular updates for the software would be required in order to ensure safety which would be expensive for the companies as they will need to provide after-sale services. Jobs of people working as taxi or bus drivers will be greatly affected by these automated cars and will damage their livelihood.
To conclude, although there are few considerable disadvantages of the notion such as cyber security issues, after-sale services and other yet the great advantages such as time saving, reduction in road fatalities completely outweigh the aforementioned demerits of the given notion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the discussion on road safety, productivity, and the impact on the elderly. The counter-arguments regarding cybersecurity and job displacement are also well-integrated. While the development is generally strong, some points, such as the mention of 'after-sale services', could have been explained with more depth to fully reach the higher band descriptors. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'To conclude' helps guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the advantages from the disadvantages. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'the notion' is used repeatedly, which feels slightly repetitive). Despite these minor points, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'road fatalities', 'automated driver-less cars', and 'cyber security issues' are appropriate for the context. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'available of them' (should be 'available to them') and 'damage their livelihood' (which is slightly awkward in this collocation). While the vocabulary is adequate and generally accurate, it lacks the sophisticated, natural control required for higher bands. The range is sufficient for the task but does not consistently show flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'all the vehicles such as cars... as people will not be needed' (which is a run-on/fragmented structure) and 'this population does not know how to drive these vehicles and they will be encouraged to travel to destinations that they desire'. Punctuation is generally accurate, but some sentences are slightly clunky. The frequency of error-free sentences is moderate, which is characteristic of a band 6.5 performance.
