Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a modern AI-oriented world, the artificial intelligence helps to evolve the world more rapidly. A large proportion of individuals believe that future transportation system will be more controlled and efficient, due to the machine learning control. However, there are both pros and cons to this decision. In this essay, I will discuss some the reasons why it will be more convenient and some of the challenges which need to be overcome.

Lets' start by looking at the advantages of the AI controlled vehicle, without a driver. One of the main positives will be that, the transportation system with no more human errors. Lets' take the UK as an example, more then 50% of accidents reported in UK are due to human errors, like drive after consuming alcohol or harsh driving leads to severe accidents. Therefore, ultimately people will have better confidence on AI-assisted transportation system.

Secondly, the driverless cars or buses will enable the passengers to monitor the vehicle's data, speed, efficiency and other information online in their phones and will also control according to their own. Also, there will be no more lates from jobs, and from important meetings, because Ai controlled vehicles will adjust their speed according to their assigned time. For example, the buses will adjust their speed to reach the destination on time. Therefore, it will be more convenient for passengers.

Turning to the other side of the story, the automated cars will lead to the massive unemployment. For instance, the drivers will replaced by the automatic vehicles. Moreover, the people will feel more isolated without any driver, which eventually disturb mental health and will leads to depression and anxiety related issues.

All things considered, the driverless will be more convenient in future but also raised some major concerns, like about mass unemployment. Personally, I believe the benefits in terms of safety eventually outweigh any negatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing both advantages and disadvantages and a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant, such as safety and unemployment, though some points are slightly under-developed. For instance, the claim that passengers will 'control' the vehicle according to their own needs is vague and lacks a clear explanation of how this would function. The conclusion clearly states the writer's stance that the benefits outweigh the negatives, which satisfies the requirement for a clear position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Secondly', 'Turning to the other side of the story', and 'All things considered', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'this decision' in the introduction, which does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages from the disadvantages.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'AI-assisted transportation' and 'automated cars'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'no more lates from jobs' and 'the driverless will be more convenient'. These errors do not impede communication but demonstrate a lack of precision. A wider range of sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the artificial intelligence', 'the transportation system'), subject-verb agreement ('the drivers will replaced'), and punctuation (the misuse of apostrophes in 'Lets''). While the meaning remains clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
