Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the prompt by discussing the advantages of driverless vehicles, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The position is clear, but the supporting evidence, such as the references to China and Scotland, is presented in a fragmented manner without sufficient explanation. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and examples to fully explore the topic, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transitions between ideas are abrupt and often mechanical. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'in this way' or 'the reason behind this is'. The structure is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to express complex ideas. Words like 'easy', 'safe', and 'work' are used frequently where more precise terminology would be appropriate. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'inviorment' and 'shoose', and issues with word formation. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to technology and transportation to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'the buses and the trucks will be driverless' and 'china test their car' show a lack of control over basic grammar. The range of sentence structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with few attempts at complex forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and punctuation.
