Student answer (Band 5.5)

All cars, buses and trucks will be driverless in coming years. The only passengers will be traveling inside these vehicles. I strongly believe that coming vehicles run with no drivers are better for safety and environment.

To begin with, one advantage of using driverless vehicles is safety. Artificial intelligence-based vehicles reduce road accidents which leads to smooth driving and safety for the family. For example, those vehicles which controlled by human were caused serious injury on motorway or death for over speed and did not apply traffic rules. Therefore, driverless cars will be more convenient to drive according to traffic rules. One more positive point to use driverless cars is that these vehicles will provide comfort for kids and older people. For instance, driverless vehicles will drive by the computer not a human. Human drivers often mistakes because of distraction. In Addition, driverless vehicles will more useful because passengers will not need to driver.

On the another hand, driverless vehicles will have some disadvantages, particularly in terms of unemployment. Many professional drivers, such as taxi, busses and truck drivers will loss their jobs after choosing driverless vehicles. For example, transport companies will replace human base vehicles with AI based vehicles to reduce labour cost. As a result, they will face an unemployment crisis. One more disadvantage is technology fails due to climate change. For instance, driverless vehicles will face serious issue at the time of heavy rain. Electricity base vehicles did not run smooth in heavy rain. Hence, due to heavy rain the function of the driverless vehicles will be damage.

In conclusion, driverless vehicles will provide safety and efficient. Also, it saves a lot of money in fuel. But there will some advantage of job losses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, maintaining a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as safety and unemployment, but the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding safety is supported by general statements about human error, but it lacks specific, well-developed examples. The conclusion is brief and slightly confusing, as it mentions 'job losses' as an advantage, which contradicts the earlier paragraph. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each point is fully explained with more depth and that your conclusion accurately reflects the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'For instance', and 'On the another hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'On the another hand' (should be 'On the other hand'). Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the link between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall flow would benefit from a more sophisticated use of linking words to connect ideas within and between paragraphs more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'artificial intelligence', 'unemployment crisis', and 'labour cost'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'human base vehicles' instead of 'human-operated vehicles' and 'function of the driverless vehicles will be damage' instead of 'will be damaged'. There is also some repetition of basic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'those vehicles which controlled by human were caused serious injury' (should be 'vehicles controlled by humans cause serious injury') and 'Electricity base vehicles did not run smooth' (should be 'Electric vehicles do not run smoothly'). There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, and word forms. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable throughout the text. Increasing your control over basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
