Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a contemporary society, driverless automobiles has emerged a highly debated issue. While this has both positive and negative aspects. In this essay, certain adverse ramifications associated with this development cannot be entirely overlooked, it is widely maintained that its advantages outweigh its disadvantages.

To commence with, the compelling reason for supporting this development is that technology has become an integral part of modern life. In the future, every vehicle will be driverless because of the artificial intelligence. People will travel comfortably and enjoy the scenery around the area. Moreover, people who drive for a long routes end their journeys by getting tired; apart from it, they also feel monotonous. For example, individuals go for a long holidays; they drive their vehicles by themselves, this makes them a less bound with their families and also misses the exquisite nature surrounded by trees. Therefore, this advancement will resolve the hectic driving and people can easily travel by enjoying the trip.

Furthermore, people also carry goods to supply to the respective destinations. Due to the traffic congestion and busy streets, they eventually take more hours to deliver their parcels. Although such routes are not good enough to go alone because of darkness and feelings of snatching and robberies. To cite an example, mostly large deliveries take place at midnight, drivers are scared and feel sleepy at the same moment. Therefore, innovation of these self-driving automobiles will make workers work more comfortable than before, in which they only sit without driving on their own and transport their goods within safety precautions.

On the other hand, we cannot deny the fact that it will reduce the employment ratio as well because people will rely on these types of technologies and will reduce the labor to save their hefty amount, which companies are spending on them.

To sum up, although these drawbacks entail such as reduction in workers and minimizing the cost budgets, it remains predominantly advantageous. On balance the benefits it offers clearly surpass its potential drawbacks, making it a positive and potential development in a modern community.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, ultimately taking a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph focuses on comfort and scenery, which is a valid point, but the second paragraph regarding logistics and safety is slightly underdeveloped in its reasoning. While the prompt asks for advantages and disadvantages, the discussion on disadvantages is relegated to a single, brief paragraph at the end, which limits the depth of the analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that the counter-arguments are explored with the same level of detail as the supporting arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as 'apart from it' and 'at the same moment'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow, such as the opening sentence which contains a grammatical error that disrupts the cohesion of the introduction. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking phrases would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'employment ratio' (instead of 'unemployment rate'), 'hefty amount' (which is slightly informal), and 'feelings of snatching and robberies' (which is unnatural). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'traffic congestion' and 'artificial intelligence', the overall range is limited. Expanding the use of more precise academic vocabulary would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'driverless automobiles has emerged a highly debated issue' (subject-verb agreement and missing preposition), 'less bound with their families' (awkward phrasing), and 'make workers work more comfortable' (should be 'more comfortably'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'they drive their vehicles by themselves, this makes them...'. Greater attention to subject-verb agreement and sentence structure is needed to improve accuracy.
