Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays there is a growing discussion of inventing vehicles that will move without a driver but only the passenger in the future. Personally, I believe the negative implications outweigh the positive impacts. This essay will discuss both the negative and positive effects and give my opinion.

On the one hand, the most significant positive impact of introducing driverless cars, buses, and trucks is reduction in traffic collusion and higher efficiency. Firstly, the existence of driverless cars will reduce the rate of road accident because there won't be reckless driving on the road. If cars that operate on system dominated majority of the cars, safety will highly be common on the road .Although many drivers are the potential cause of road accident, this driverless vehicles will reduce the rate of road collusion. For instance, while a driver may sleep because of exhaustion, system won't do that. Secondly, this types of cars will be efficiency because it will be controlled by mapping and series of satellite so it will move at appropriate speed and time.

On the other hand, I firmly believe this trend is largely negative because it will increase the rate of unemployment because some people occupation is driving and when these vehicles are invented many drivers may lose their job. For example, an uneducated man who caters for his family with transiting passengers will definitely be jobless. Furthermore, if there is an engine problem during movement, it will be difficult for the passengers to repair.

In conclusion, although a world with driverless cars have some benefits such as high rate of efficiency and reduction in road accident, I believe it negative impacts are much greater because it will lead to increase in the rate of unemployment and difficulty to repairing during a journey.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, maintaining a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as road safety and unemployment, but they are somewhat under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding 'efficiency' is mentioned but lacks specific detail on how mapping or satellite technology actually improves traffic flow. While the position is consistent, the development of the points could be more thorough to reach a higher band. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the supporting evidence is quite general.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'If cars that operate on system dominated majority of the cars', which is difficult to follow. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'traffic collusion' (instead of 'collisions'), 'safety will highly be common', and 'difficulty to repairing'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'exhaustion' and 'unemployment', the range is limited. The errors do not generally impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of flexibility in using more sophisticated or precise lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('this types of cars will be efficiency'), missing articles ('some people occupation'), and awkward sentence construction ('some people occupation is driving and when these vehicles are invented many drivers may lose their job'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammar rules and sentence structure is needed.
