Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, and a clear position is stated in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'fewer road accidents' is repetitive and lacks specific examples or logical depth. The points made are somewhat superficial, and the conclusion merely restates the points without adding a final synthesis. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples, ensuring that the development is balanced and fully addresses the implications of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'To explain it' and 'To elaborate it' are used repetitively, and some transitions feel forced. The logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between 'driverless cars' and 'petrol' is unclear. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms and some phrases are used incorrectly or in a non-standard way, such as 'mishappening which are happened' and 'computer cars'. There is also some repetition of words like 'statement' and 'associated'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. For example, instead of 'mishappening', use 'traffic accidents' or 'collisions'. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated synonyms will help you move toward a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'drivers loss their jobs'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'which are happened'), and awkward sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralisation will be very beneficial.
