Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the near future there will be driverless vehicles. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Driverless cars have many advantages which include it will save time for people. For instance, a driverless car can park itself after dropping people to their offices. Schoolchildren would no longer need to wait for a bus or depend on their parents to take them to school. Driverless cars will have a smaller number of accidents compared with conventional cars driven by humans because they will be programmed to follow all rules and regulations. Driverless vehicles will ensure road safety not only for passengers travelling inside these vehicles but also for pedestrians. Driverless vehicles may decrease the quantity of traffic due to automated car sharing scheme.
Driverless vehicles can cause the loss of jobs for drivers all over the world which can impact their personal life. If only a small component stops functioning these vehicles can cause a major accident. If the security of the software is not ensured then these vehicles can be hacked and someone can take their control remotely. The price of these vehicles will be higher because of the additional cost of their software. These vehicles will need continuous updates in their software to maintain smooth driving and instead of paying to drivers people have to pay for the software updates.
In my opinion, advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages because they can save time, can ensure safety and decrease the quantity of traffic. Although if a sensor stops working it can cause an accident, backup systems and mechanical parts can stop a car safely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering safety, efficiency, and traffic reduction as advantages, and job loss, technical failure, and security as disadvantages. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about 'loss of jobs' is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of its societal impact. Similarly, the argument regarding 'backup systems' is a brief assertion rather than a well-developed explanation. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your supporting points with more detailed reasoning or specific examples to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the argument. There is a clear introduction, body paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. You rely heavily on starting sentences with 'Driverless vehicles' or 'These vehicles'. The transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother; for instance, the jump from job loss to software hacking is abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and referencing (e.g., 'such systems', 'this transition') would improve the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'automated car sharing scheme', 'regulations', and 'remotely'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words like 'vehicles', 'cars', and 'people'. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'take their control' instead of 'take control of them' or 'paying to drivers' instead of 'paying drivers'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to technology and transportation to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'include it will save time' should be 'include the fact that they will save time', and 'instead of paying to drivers people have to pay' is grammatically awkward. There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy.
