Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about medical reasons is relevant, but the explanation regarding 'technical error' and 'human emotions' is a bit vague and lacks specific examples or logical depth. The position is clear in the introduction, but the conclusion is slightly repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a concrete example to support the claims made, rather than just listing potential issues or benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or misused. For example, 'Despite this' is used incorrectly to introduce a point that does not contrast with the previous sentence. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, making the flow feel disjointed. While the overall progression of ideas is logical, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of referencing (e.g., 'they' referring back to 'machines' or 'people' in unclear ways) limits the score. Improving the variety and accuracy of transition signals would significantly enhance the coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent spelling errors such as 'vechicle', 'fimly', 'sucessfully', 'delievered', 'eractic', and 'autumobile'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the writing. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'automation', 'landscape', and 'preloaded guidelines', the range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of collocations and academic vocabulary to express ideas with more precision and fewer errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this process can takes', 'incident occurs'), incorrect verb forms ('making it doubtful to be sucessfully delievered'), and awkward phrasing ('it has it sown benefits'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from achieving a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency would be highly beneficial.
