Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the future, autonomous technology may make it possible for cars, buses and trucks to operate without a driver. Although this development can create certain concerns, I believe the advantages of driverless vehicles would outweigh the disadvantages.
One significant advantage of a driverless less vehicle is that it could improve road safety. A large portion of accidents are caused by human error such as drink and drive, fatigue, sleepiness etc, driverless vehicles in contrast would always check the surroundings, safety belts, speed limit and potential hazards. For instance, a person having a Tesla won’t have to worry about feeling sleepy and having to drive the car back home because the advanced vehicle would with all safety precaution take the man back home.
Another advantage is that the driverless vehicle is of greater convenience and accessible for the people who don’t know how to drive and also for the elderly persons and the disabled. They won’t have to rely on someone or ask any one the favour to drive them to places moreover they could use this time to relax or work. Driverless trucks would also make the long travel and transportation of goods easier and relaxing.
Compared to the advantages there are also certain disadvantages that follows such as technical failure in the driverless vehicles or there can be a cyberattack which could be quite dangerous. If any software malfunctions it could lead to dangerous outcomes because there won’t be any immediate driver to control the car. Furthermore many taxi drivers could lose their jobs if this driverless technology takes over.
In conclusion while the driverless vehicles may cause malfunctions or job risks, i believe there are more advantages of driverless technology and they outweigh the disadvantages .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles and clearly stating your position. Your ideas are relevant, particularly regarding road safety and accessibility. However, some points could be further developed. For instance, while you mention cyberattacks and job losses, these points are somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough explanation or a more specific, real-world example to support your claims. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'One significant advantage', 'Another advantage', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with punctuation and sentence flow, such as the run-on sentence in the second paragraph: 'A large portion of accidents are caused by human error such as drink and drive, fatigue, sleepiness etc, driverless vehicles in contrast would always check...'. Improving the variety of linking words and refining sentence boundaries would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'autonomous technology', 'malfunctions', and 'cyberattack'. There are some instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'driverless less vehicle' (a typo) and 'the man back home' (which is too informal and specific). You also rely on some repetitive structures. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid informal expressions. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated academic vocabulary would help you move into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the driverless vehicle is of greater convenience and accessible' (should be 'more convenient and accessible') and 'disadvantages that follows' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas in long, complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on errors.
