Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the upcoming years all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless, and only passengers will travelling inside these vehicles. This essay is shows the merits and demerits driverless vehicles, and I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages because it control pollutions and control the risk of accidents, where the demerits is loss of nation economy.

The primary factor of merits is control pollution. It will beneficial for us from pollution because the proportion of cars, buses and tucks will driverless than the pollution will control. Nowadays, the proportion of pollution is too much and people were suffering from many serious diseases, and some of them loss their life. If in the future all vehicles will be used in small percent then it will be beneficial for individuals. For example, if government makes rule in the driverless of vehicles then it control pollutions which come from them, and keep people suffer from disease. The demerits against these is it effect in nation economy. If the vehicles will driverless in the future then it effect on nation economy like; payment of Tax will be decrease and it impacts on economy.

Another factor is control the risk of accidents. Nowadays, the number of accidents is more than the past because the traffic of vehicles. If there will be use less vehicles in the future, it control the risk of accidents and people will be safe. For instance, if we control the use of cars, buses and trucks then it control the high number of accidents, and no more people will suffer from this in the upcoming years.

In conclusion, I believe that the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages because it control pollutions and control the high risk of accidents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, though the development of ideas is quite limited. The arguments regarding pollution and accidents are repetitive and lack specific evidence or logical depth. For instance, the claim that driverless vehicles will 'control pollution' is asserted without explaining how automation itself reduces emissions. The disadvantage regarding the 'nation economy' is mentioned but remains underdeveloped, lacking a clear explanation of why tax revenue would necessarily decrease. To improve, you should focus on providing concrete examples or logical chains of reasoning that explain the 'how' and 'why' behind your points, rather than simply restating the same ideas in different ways.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'The primary factor of merits' and 'The demerits against these is' are awkward and do not effectively link ideas. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is also somewhat circular, particularly in the second paragraph where the same point about pollution is repeated multiple times. To reach a higher band, you should work on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one rather than repeating it.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. You frequently use basic terms like 'merits', 'demerits', 'control', and 'beneficial' in ways that are sometimes imprecise or grammatically incorrect (e.g., 'it control pollutions'). There is a lack of topic-specific vocabulary related to autonomous technology or economics. To improve, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a broader range of academic vocabulary. For example, instead of repeating 'control', you could use 'mitigate', 'alleviate', or 'reduce'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you express your arguments with greater clarity and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This essay is shows', 'it control pollutions'), tense usage (e.g., 'only passengers will travelling'), and word order. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'if government makes rule in the driverless of vehicles then it control pollutions'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that tenses are used consistently. Practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions will also significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
