Student answer (Band 5.5)

Due to modern innovation it is believed that in the near future all the cars, busses and vehicles will be driver less. In this essay I will discuss both pros and cons by giving examples. Its a controversial question but I will be in the fever of driver less cars.

Now look at the benefits of driver less vehicles. First advantage is that today people have less salaries and their expenditures are high. So they can't afford drivers. That's why people mostly prefer to public transport or driving themselves. Also when the cars are without drivers then the cabs will be available in low prices because in this it is without driver's expense.

Second reason is that those people or employee who have to go at long distance for their job. Then the long drive will tire them. Due to heavy fatigue they can't pay proper heed to their task. As a result their work disturbed and due to this reason they may be lose their job or forget their promotion.

In contrast, most of the people think that these modern cars are not reliable. Because in some situations these are not able to handle properly like humans. But I think these excuses are outdated and now technology has made a lot of progress in every field, These cars are connected directly with the satlites through internet. So it is unfair to say that.

Conclusively, the benefits of vehicles without drivers are outweigh than disadvantages because with the help of these things we can save our money and time. And the other important thing is that we can enjoy ourselves while long drive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, and a clear position is maintained. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'low prices' due to the lack of driver expenses is a good point, but it is not fully explored. The counter-argument regarding reliability is mentioned but lacks depth, relying on a brief dismissal rather than a nuanced discussion. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples for each point raised, ensuring the balance between the pros and cons is more thoroughly examined.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Now look at the benefits' is informal and abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are linked in a way that feels disjointed, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. While the overall structure is logical, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is more precise throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'in the fever of' (likely meaning 'in favour of') and 'pay proper heed to their task'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'busses' (buses) and 'satlites' (satellites). While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range of vocabulary and the presence of errors in word choice and spelling prevent a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('their work disturbed'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('Then the long drive will tire them'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas and apostrophes. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and pluralisation.
