Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely believe that in the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless has both advantages and disadvantages. While there are some negative aspects, I am convinced that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

One of the most notable benefits is that the people get a salary and they can survey the life and they do not have to dependent on other people. This is because when people do not get a work at time they cant give better life to there family and they do not give education to there children. For example, in my country maney people are working into the bud driver and they are give best life to there family. As a result, driverless cars, buses and trucks could significantly reduce accidents and save many lives.

Another benefit is greater convenience and accessibility. Elderly people, children, and people with disabilities who cannot drive independently could travel more easily. In addition, passengers could use their travelling time to work, study or relax instead of concentrating on driving. Driverless vehicles could also make journeys more efficient by communicating with one another and choosing less congested routes.

However, there are some significant disadvantages. Job losses are a major concern, particularly for professional drivers such as taxi drivers, bus drivers and truck drivers. Furthermore, automated vehicles may occasionally malfunction or make incorrect decisions, potentially causing serious accidents. There are also concerns about hacking and the misuse of personal travel data.

Despite these drawbacks, I believe the benefits are greater in the long term. Technology can be improved through extensive testing and strict safety regulations, while workers whose jobs are affected can be offered opportunities to retrain. Therefore, although driverless vehicles will create new challenges, their potential to make transportation safer, more convenient and more efficient makes them a positive development overall.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are generally relevant, though the first body paragraph is confusing. The argument regarding people 'getting a salary' and 'surveying the life' is unclear and does not logically support the point about driverless vehicles. The second and third paragraphs are much stronger, providing clear, relevant arguments for both sides. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting point directly relates to the topic of autonomous vehicles rather than general economic concerns.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the most notable benefits', 'In addition', 'However', and 'Despite these drawbacks' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, although the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt due to the unclear nature of the first argument. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the structure supports the development of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'automated vehicles', 'congested routes', and 'professional drivers'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'survey the life' and 'maney people are working into the bud driver'. These errors occasionally hinder the clarity of your points. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices accurately reflect the intended meaning in a formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you demonstrate an ability to construct complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people get a salary', 'they are give best life') and word forms ('dependent' instead of 'depend'). There are also persistent spelling errors, such as 'maney' and 'there' used instead of 'their'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your writing.
