Student answer (Band 6.0)
Recent studies have shown that in the coming years, autonomous vehicles will dominate without any human to operate the cars, buses, and trucks. The individuals will journey in the autonomous transports as passengers only. On balance, I tend to believe that the benefits of autonomous vehicles outweigh their drawbacks. On the one hand, digital tools are widespread all over the world. Autonomous vehicles will become the most prevalent and substantial thing on the planet. Moreover, these vehicles will be able to provide a timely ride to citizens. Furthermore, numerous corporations foster this innovation in their nations to supply the benefits of this technological progress to the public, such as in China, Singapore, and Japan which already cultivate this. In addition, humans can generate more errors as compared to machines. For instance, a large number of accidents are caused by humans who are addicted to drugs. As a result, numerous individuals lose their lives. In contrast, autonomous vehicles enhance road safety and traffic management. On the other hand, autonomous vehicles hold drawbacks with their benefits. Firstly, this innovation becomes imperative in the community. So, they will take the job of professional drivers. Thus, these jobs have almost vanished in established nations. Secondly, cyber attacks are frequent worldwide. Autonomous vehicles are also computer-based machines, so they could be hacked by unknown persons. To illustrate this, if a professional hacker hacks the school bus in which students are sitting and he is likely to blackmail the authorities, it threatens lives because machines could not possess any emotions. In conclusion, these autonomous vehicles need to be enhanced in safety and security systems. The policymakers should make these vehicles risk-free for citizens, learners, and workers lives. Moreover, the conveniences of these vehicles outweigh their drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering road safety and technological progress as benefits, and job displacement and cyber security as drawbacks. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding job loss is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of economic or social impact. Similarly, the point about cyber attacks is a strong idea but lacks a more nuanced discussion on potential solutions or the likelihood of such events. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand your supporting points with more depth and analysis rather than listing them briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Firstly'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, particularly the shift between the benefits and drawbacks. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. To improve, ensure that your linking words serve to connect ideas more naturally rather than just acting as signposts at the start of every sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'autonomous vehicles', 'innovation', and 'cyber attacks'. However, there are instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'substantial thing on the planet' or 'cultivate this'. The range is sufficient for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations—for example, instead of saying 'take the job', use 'displace workers' or 'render roles obsolete'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'humans can generate more errors' (which is slightly awkward) and 'machines could not possess any emotions' (where 'do not' would be more appropriate). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. Increasing your use of varied subordinate clauses would help improve this score.
