Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the future, automobiles will not be driven by human drivers but instead the vehicles will be automatic. In my view, the advantages of this trend significantly outweigh the disadvantages because of the decline in the number of accidents and faster and efficient commuting.
On the one hand, there are certain drawbacks to this development. The main disadvantage is that it will replace human drivers from their jobs. For example, driving companies will not hire human drivers to drive their cabs and buses as they will not have to give salaries to the driver-less cars. Consequently, it will lead to unemployment and economic crisis among lower-income individuals of the society. Additionally, significant number of people will buy these new automatic vehicles, for personal commute which will lead to traffic congestion.
On the other hand, I believe the benefits are far more significant. Firstly, there will be no human errors during driving, which can lead to decreased or theoritically no road accidents at all. To illustrate, human drivers might fall asleep during long journeys which can cause road accidents, risking lives of the passengers and drivers themselves while these self-driving cars will have no such issue. Secondly, it will help in reliable and faster travel and transportation across different cities in the same country and even other parts of the world resulting in faster commuting without physical exhaustion.
In conclusion, despite some minor negative consequences, I believe the advantages of driverless vehicles are more prominent because they provide hustle free travelling and result in significantly reduced number of road accidents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering both the economic impact of job displacement and the benefits of safety and efficiency. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about traffic congestion is mentioned but not fully explored, and the argument regarding 'faster travel' across 'other parts of the world' is a bit vague and lacks a concrete example. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and perhaps a more nuanced discussion of the trade-offs involved in the transition to autonomous transport.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the disadvantages from the advantages. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Consequently', 'Firstly', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through your arguments. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the transition between the economic impact and the traffic congestion point in the first body paragraph could be slightly more refined to ensure a tighter flow of logic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'unemployment', 'economic crisis', and 'physical exhaustion'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'hustle free' (should be 'hassle-free') and 'theoritically' (spelling error). While you use some good collocations, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure that spelling is accurate, as these small errors slightly detract from the overall professional tone of the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over basic grammar, and your meaning is always clear. There are some minor errors, such as 'significant number of people' (missing an article: 'a significant number') and 'driver-less' (unnecessary hyphenation). While you attempt complex sentences, they are sometimes slightly repetitive in structure. To achieve a higher band, aim for a wider variety of complex grammatical forms, such as conditional clauses or passive voice constructions, and ensure greater precision in article usage and punctuation.
