Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driveless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.

Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages

With the advance technological development, it is believed that automobiles will become driveless. Along the individuals inside the vehicles will only be the passengers. This essay delves into this notion, and states my opinion that demerits have an edge over the merits.

To commence with, the foremost advantage of autonomous vehicles is the elimination of human errors. To elaborate, most of the vehicular accidents are caused by the human mistakes due to distraction, physical limitation for instance not able to see an object at a distance and often due to over-confident driving. However, all these scenruos get instantly eliminated due to softwares of self driving vehicles, as they follow a set of instructions and can not bypass the algorithms. Thus, the accidents on road get eradicated due to driverless automobiles. Besides eliminating human errors, driverless vehicls can reduce traffic congestion. On describing this fact, the autonomous vehicles use algorithms to decide their path, speed and control. Mean Hence, these algorithm are superior to humans at driving as they follow rules, be attentive to controlling vehicles and fact In accordance to lane discipline. So, these lead to better traffic management as this way get rid of silly human error.

Paradoxically, there are some adverse impacts of the phenomenon as well. Firstly, switching on self-driving cars cars will cause massive disruption to the cab industry. To delve deeper into this, the scenerio of replacing taxi driver to driving software will cause massive unemployed. Admittedly, a considerable number of people in our society work as a taxi driver either part-time or full time, as this is a skill which can easily be acquired and used as for earning the livelihood. [crossed out text] The driverless vehicles which cause massive unemployment and cause both political and economic instability. Because the drivers would oppose the government by doing protests, proofs to express their distress and simultaneously driver's families will face financial lossed which will affect their purchases and eventually losses by it will be faced by economy. Furthermore, software glitches can causes disasters. [crossed out text] Unlike humans, the software can malfunction or even hacked on much larger scale at the same time. This can cause accidents or distractions due to malfuntions in saftware.

On balance, the disadvantages to this phenomenon overweight the advantages. Irrefutably, autonomous vehicle eliminate human error and can be efficient during tine traffic congestion but this would lead to a massive discru disruption in the economy due to vast job losses.

And it should be noted that human's error and efficiency at road can be simply be removed by creating awareness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles and presenting a clear position that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. The ideas are generally well developed, particularly the points regarding the elimination of human error and the economic disruption caused by unemployment in the transport sector. However, the development in places is somewhat repetitive, and the final concluding sentence introduces a slightly new idea regarding creating awareness rather than focusing strictly on the prompt. Despite these minor lapses, the student covers the task adequately, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, advantages, disadvantages, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Besides eliminating human errors', and 'Paradoxically'. However, there are noticeable mechanical errors in referencing and cohesion, such as awkward transitional phrases ('Mean Hence', 'On describing this fact') and incomplete sentence structures that disrupt the flow. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by grammatical stumbling blocks, placing this at a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'autonomous vehicles', 'demerits', 'disruption', and 'instantly eliminated'. However, there are several word choice and spelling errors, such as 'driveless', 'scenruos', 'vehicls', 'malfuntions', and 'saftware'. Collocations are sometimes unnatural, as seen in phrases like 'faces financial lossed'. While communication is not severely impeded, these recurring lexical and spelling inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band, aligning it with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure through subordinate clauses and conditional constructions. However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, preposition use, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Along the individuals inside the vehicles will only be the passengers', 'This can cause accidents or distractions due to malfuntions in saftware'). Punctuation and word forms are also inconsistently managed. Although meaning remains mostly clear despite these slips, the high frequency of errors places this response firmly at a Band 5.5.
