Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, but it does so in a very limited and repetitive manner. The writer mentions points such as ease of travel, reduced pollution, job losses for professional drivers, and technical hacking risks. However, the ideas are severely under-developed and lack extension or concrete examples. Furthermore, the response suffers from a major negative constraint: it falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 241 words, which directly impacts the task achievement score. The position is also somewhat unclear due to the abrupt ending and broken structure. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with Band 4.0 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text shows an attempt at paragraphing with 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but the overall organization and logical progression are frequently broken. Sentences are often joined incorrectly or run together without proper punctuation, such as missing capital letters and spaces after full stops (e.g., 'vehicles.only people', 'future.i think'). Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately. The referencing is unclear at times, making it difficult to follow the flow of arguments, particularly in the introduction and the unfinished conclusion. Information and ideas are not arranged coherently enough to reach a higher band, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently reusing words like 'vehicles', 'technology', 'driverless', and 'people' throughout the essay. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'people does drive continously' and 'technology can failed any time'. Spelling errors are also present, including 'travellig', 'nowaday', 'vechiles', 'trafiic', and 'disadavntage'. The range of vocabulary is limited and inadequate for expressing complex thoughts on this academic topic, straining the reader's understanding at times and matching the Band 4.0 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple structures and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There is a total absence of control over basic punctuation and capitalization, with multiple sentences run together using commas or no punctuation at all. Frequent errors occur in verb forms, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'all the people is driving vechiles' and 'people will not tired because people does drive continously'. These persistent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of a Band 4.0 performance.
