Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt regarding the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, stating a mixed opinion. However, the response falls significantly short of the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 195 words. Consequently, the ideas are severely underdeveloped, and the position is not fully explained or supported. For instance, the discussion on advantages mentions safety and eco-friendliness but lacks elaboration or specific examples. The disadvantage section incorrectly claims that people without a driving licence using driverless cars will violate rules and cause a higher ratio of accidents, which is logically flawed given that no driver's licence is required for fully autonomous vehicles. Because the task is only partially addressed due to under-length and under-developed ideas, it falls under Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organization with transitional markers such as 'To begin', 'Now I will demonstrate', and 'To conclude'. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the paragraphing is awkward, notably with the essay ending abruptly mid-sentence at 'to j'. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or applied mechanically, such as 'Furthermore, the travelling without driver this is creating the eco friendly environment.' Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical flow suffers from abrupt topic shifts and incomplete thoughts. This aligns with the Band 5 descriptors where organization is present but overall progression is hindered by poor cohesion and incomplete text structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies on basic, repetitive vocabulary, such as 'travelling', 'vehicles', and 'driverless'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Travelling play a important role', 'visiting inside these vehicles', and spelling errors like 'driverlesss' and 'liscence'. Attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'eco friendly environment' or 'negligilble', are either inaccurate or left incomplete. While communication is occasionally maintained, the lexical limitations and errors frequently impede smooth reading, placing the response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that result in severe grammatical errors. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('Travelling play a important role'), missing articles ('safety of own and no the wastage'), and ungrammatical constructions ('People will be not wait for driver' and 'modern technology would be replace'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also faulty, and the essay concludes with an incomplete fragment ('People will be negligilble consider for j'). These frequent and severe errors cause substantial difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 4 descriptor.
