Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the modernization of the word technology is invading all fields of life. The artificial intelligence has also emerged to assist humanity in everyday life. With the advancments in the field of science driveless vehicles are becoming popular nowadays. It is predicted that in future only passengers will be travelling in these vehicles. I beleive it has many drawbacks but overall advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Many companies like Tesla and many chinese companies have launches driveless cars which are operated by artificial intelligence. These cars are being used in many countries of the world. Driverless trucks buses and trains are expected to be lainched in near future. It would be very beneficial for society as driveless cars seem to have less accidents. Moreover, It would be more cost effective and punctual. Furthermore, there will be an extra space for the passengers as driver seats will be eliminated from vehicles. In addition, driveless cars would provide convenience to drop all memebers to their destinations. Subsequently, the number of cars will be reduced per family resulting in reduction of airpollution and traffic congestion.

On the contarry, there are some setbacks of cars operated by AI. It can be a dangerous tool in hands of hackers who may take control of public vehicles and use it for harmful purposes like terorism. Likewise, computer may comit error and can result in accidents. Some reports of such accidents are reported alraedy. Similarly, there could be legal issues if there are trafic voilations.

In conclusion, I think, driveless cars are a positive development if used with caution with increase in cyber security. The goverments might need to change trafic rules to welcome this new development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles and presenting a clear position that the advantages outweigh the drawbacks. The introduction and conclusion establish this stance. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs tends to be somewhat list-like and over-generalized, particularly in the second paragraph where several benefits are mentioned briefly without deep elaboration or specific examples. For instance, points regarding cost-effectiveness, punctuality, and reduced car ownership are stated rather than fully explored. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are met adequately, aligning with the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing advantages and disadvantages, and finishing with a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Moreover", "Furthermore", and "On the contarry". However, some referencing is occasionally imprecise, and paragraphing could be managed with greater sophistication to ensure a smoother progression of arguments. For example, the second paragraph crams numerous distinct advantages together in rapid succession, which creates a slightly mechanical feel. Cohesion is generally functional, supporting a Band 6.0 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as "modernization", "artificial intelligence", "cost effective", and "cyber security". However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, including "word" instead of "world", "advancments", "driveless", "beleive", "launches" (for launched), "lainched", "memebers", "contarry", "terorism", "comit", "alraedy", "trafic", "voilations", and "goverments". While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the lexical score from reaching Band 7.0, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of the student's control over vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure with conditional ideas and relative clauses. There are, however, numerous grammatical and punctuation errors present. Examples include missing articles ('in future', 'in hands of hackers', 'use it for harmful purposes'), incorrect singular/plural agreement ('traffic voilations', 'memebers'), and missing commas before introductory or contrasting transition words ('On the contarry'). Despite these frequent errors, the meaning remains comprehensible throughout, which fits the profile for Band 5.5, balancing a decent range of structures against persistent accuracy issues.
