Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, ultimately taking a clear position in the conclusion that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. The response presents relevant ideas, such as reducing road accidents and eliminating professional driving careers. However, these ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on repetitive arguments rather than deep exploration. For example, the point about saving money is briefly stated as 'it will boon for those individuals who do not able to afford driver' without adequate expansion. While the prompt is adequately answered, the depth of supporting examples places this response firmly at Band 5.5 to 6.0. Due to under-developed extensions, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response features a clear overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs (one for advantages, one for disadvantages), and a conclusion, fulfilling basic organisational requirements. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'On the positive side', 'On the negative side', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are frequently faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'As a consequently, this trend has a lot of benefits to masses'. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by grammatical awkwardness and repetitive structures. This overall organization and mechanical linking align well with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate simple ideas about autonomous transport, using terms like 'automotive transportation', 'traffic rules', and 'professional driving careers'. However, there is a heavy reliance on basic vocabulary and frequent word-choice errors, such as 'automatic reduce accidents' instead of 'automatically reduce accidents' and 'it will vanish the drivers career' instead of 'eliminate driving careers'. Noticeable errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'loss their jobs' instead of 'lose their jobs', cause some distraction and occasionally impede smooth reading. These limitations place the lexical resource squarely within the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like statements ('vehicles such as cars... will be functioning without the need of driver and only passengers will be sit inside'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as omitted articles ('need of driver', 'number road accidents'), incorrect verb forms ('will be sit', 'do not able to afford'), and prepositions. While the meaning is generally retrievable despite the persistent errors, the high frequency of basic grammatical mistakes prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0.
