Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, presenting a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. However, the ideas are under-developed and lack sufficient explanation or depth. Furthermore, the text is only 221 words long, which fails to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of the task. Examples such as mentioning China and ridesharing services are introduced briefly without adequate expansion, pulling the score down to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs covering the introduction, advantages, disadvantages, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor punctuation, missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'years, the', 'life. It'), and repetitive transitional phrases. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'On the second hand' instead of 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing and flow are frequently disrupted by mechanical errors, leading to a Band 5.0 rating.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, such as 'positive development' and 'technology'. There are several noticeable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'flied' instead of 'field', 'inshide' instead of 'inside', 'pessengers' instead of 'passengers', 'overweight' instead of 'outweigh', 'firsly' instead of 'firstly', 'complety' instead of 'completely', 'relay' instead of 'rely', 'hack' instead of hacked, and 'differniate' instead of 'differentiate'. These frequent errors constrain the lexical range and occasionally impede communication, positioning the response at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('it have many benefits'), tense inconsistencies ('individuals shows'), and incorrect prepositions ('work their for anymore'). Punctuation errors are pervasive, particularly missing spaces after punctuation marks and capitalization mistakes. The high frequency of basic structural and punctuation errors causes difficulty for the reader and prevents the writing from reaching a higher band, resulting in a score of 5.0.
