Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is no doubt that in this contemporary era individuals have different attitudes towards driving. In the upcoming years, all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. There will be only passengers inside these vehicles to travel. From my perspective, I belive that the positive sides of this development outweigh the negative sides. This essay will look at these into more detail.

One of the major perks is that it will be helpful for disabeled individuals. The reason behind this is that they can not drive themselves which make them reliant on others. Thereby, they may become independent due to driverless vehicles. For instance, if they want to go anywhere, therefore they can go without assistant of others. Another primary benefit is that it will not interrupt in their work. This is because, during travelling they are not driving which leads them to do their work. As a result, they may focus more on their task achievement. For example, they may become more creative and productive which allow them to be more successful.

The key drawback of this is that it will makes individuals less confident. This occurs due to dependency on technology which makes them lazy. In the shorter term, they may lose their driving skills. In the longer term, they For instance, if individuals regularly use automated tranportation, thus

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles and presents a clear position. However, the essay is incomplete, abruptly cutting off at the end of the third paragraph. Furthermore, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the response contains only 221 words. Because of this under-length issue and the incomplete development of the second disadvantage, the task achievement is constrained to Band 5.0. To reach higher bands, the writer must fully develop all parts of the task and ensure the word count exceeds the 250-word minimum.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates an attempt at logical organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and cohesive devices such as "One of the major perks", "The reason behind this", and "For instance". However, paragraphing and cohesion are affected by the abrupt ending of the text. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical use of transition phrases limits the flow. Overall, the structural progression is disrupted by the incomplete conclusion, warranting a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common collocations such as "contemporary era", "independent", and "automated transportation". There are, however, some noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as "belive" instead of believe, "disabeled" instead of disabled, "assistant" instead of assistance, and "tranportation" instead of transportation. These errors do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score to Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses ("if they want to go anywhere, therefore they can go...") and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including double connectors ("if... therefore"), missing words, and incorrect verb forms ("they can not drive themselves which make them"). Because the text cuts off mid-sentence, control over complex structures is inconsistent, placing it at a Band 5.0.
