In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the upcoming time, all the vehicles will be driven automatically. These vehicles will only carry passesngers inside them. There are many pros and cons of this technology but i believe that advantages outweighs the disadvantages because Artificial Intelligence is getting more advanced with the time.
The main advantage of having driverless motor vehicle is that it helps in reducing the number of road accidents and it overides the need of maps as it follows the route itself . Self driven cars are developed with artificial intelligence which is very fast and accurate in doing many things. Therefore, the need of human in performing such tasks is minimized which helps them to do other things which are more critical. For instance, Tesla is one of the largest self driven car industry in which the passenger only inputs the destination and the car itself covers the distance without any human interference. So, while the car is moving passengers can sleep or do anything they want.
Moreover, there are some disadvantages of this technology one of them is increasing unemployment. There are many individuals working as truck or bus drivers for their earnings but with the increase in automated cars the number of unemployed individuals also increase. For example, Tesla has launced self driven trucks and buses which does not need any professional drivers. Hence, the profession of driver is experiencing a huge decline in jobs.
In conclusion, I think driverless vehicles like cars, buses and trucks have many advantages which outweigh disadvantages. This advancement enables humans to focus on more important tasks than the uselss ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles and clearly states a personal position that the advantages outweigh the drawbacks. The main ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as mentioning Tesla and the reduction of road accidents. However, some arguments lack deeper extension; for example, the mention of unemployment is somewhat brief and could have been elaborated further. The position is maintained throughout the essay, leading to a clear conclusion. Overall, the task is handled adequately, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 descriptor range where all parts are addressed with relevant, albeit slightly under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is divided into clear paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs focusing separately on advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Ideas are logically sequenced, making the overall progression easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is generally clear, with pronouns like 'these vehicles' effectively linking back to previously mentioned nouns. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Minor improvements in the variety of cohesive devices would elevate this section further, but the current organization supports clear communication.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the student's ideas. The writer attempts some less common and topic-specific vocabulary such as 'artificial intelligence', 'automated cars', and 'unemployment', demonstrating an acceptable range. However, there are several lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as spelling 'passesngers' instead of 'passengers', writing 'motor vehicle' instead of 'vehicles', and using 'overides' and 'launced'. Furthermore, the phrase 'uselss ones' in the conclusion contains a spelling error ('useless') and is overly informal. While these errors do not impede overall comprehension, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures such as 'So, while the car is moving passengers can sleep...'. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'advantages outweighs', 'cars the number... also increase', 'buses which does not need') and missing articles or prepositions. Despite these recurring errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded. The structural variety shows an attempt at complex grammar, fitting comfortably into the Band 6 descriptor profile.
