IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is estimated that in coming years the transportation vehicles will only with hold passengers, mainly due to the increase in the emergence of driverless vehicles.I strongly concur with the notion that it has significant drawbacks in comparison to the benefits.
The most compelling rationale in the favour of this view is that tremendous amount of unemployment as one of the major consequence. This can negatively impact the livelihood of the blue collar percentage of the population and the gross economy of the states.Another supporting argument is the the lack of empathy and sympathy as a result of the absence of human drivers that play a vital role for the well being of the passengers. For instance, the daily commuters on the bus develop a special kind of bond with their constant drivers which enables boost in the morale of the both parties, giving a desired sense of community.
On the contrary, the driverless innovation does have some perks, such as the diminishing number of accidents resulting from the various human factors such as fatigue and misjudgement.Another vital connotation is that the driverless transport is rapid and fast paced, eliminating the tiring process of managing the practical and feasible shifts of the human drivers. This whole fasade requires immense technical, financial, and labour resources.
Tersely, i firmly believe that the driverless transport in emerging years although definately having some inecentives, will ultimately harm the human race and their tendencies, intensively impacting the livelihood of people and depriving them of having a chnace at emotional bonding and relationships.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, ultimately taking a clear position that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. Your main ideas, such as unemployment caused by automation and the loss of human interaction, are relevant and extended with explanations and examples, such as the bond between commuters and bus drivers. However, some arguments like the mention of financial and technical resources are slightly underdeveloped or lack full integration into the main thesis. Overall, the task is successfully handled, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is structured into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'The most compelling rationale', 'Another supporting argument', and 'On the contrary'. However, some of the cohesive transitions feel a bit mechanical or awkward, such as 'Another vital connotation' and 'Tersely'. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression within the paragraphs occasionally feels slightly disjointed due to phrasing choices. Referencing is generally clear, though referencing errors like 'the the' disrupt flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'unemployment', 'livelihood', 'connotation', and 'fasade'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the response. Examples include 'will only with hold passengers' (withhold), 'gross economy' (broader economy), 'fasade' (facade), and 'inecentives' (incentives). Furthermore, expressions like 'Tersely' are used inappropriately for a formal essay conclusion. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in your sentence structures. There are, however, frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples of errors include missing articles and prepositions, awkward phrasing ('in the favour of this view', 'gives a desired sense'), and punctuation/spacing issues around commas and periods (e.g., missing space after full stops). While the errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher band, they rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to follow your line of reasoning.
