In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.

Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.0)

From my perspective there are some advantages and also disadvantages:

The advantage are as follows: As we know if the cars ,buses and trucks are driverless there is no need of human being to drive the vehicles and also in emergency we don't need to find the person to travel for longer route . These were some advantages

Now we will discuss the disadvantages:

The main disadvantage is that the AI mechanism is not much powerful it may cause accidents if any problem in the mechanism,So I strongly believe that

driverless Vehicles can be dangerous in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, coming in at only 97 words. Consequently, the task can only be addressed in a very minimal fashion. The writer briefly mentions a couple of points regarding advantages, such as removing the need for human drivers and helping on longer routes, and one disadvantage concerning potential AI mechanism failures leading to accidents. However, these ideas are extremely underdeveloped and lack any real extension, relevant examples, or a clearly maintained position. Because the length constraint is not met, the response cannot achieve a band score above 4.0 for this criterion, as the breadth and depth of the task are heavily compromised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text lacks proper paragraphing and cohesive structure. It relies on informal conversational prompts like 'Now we will discuss the disadvantages' rather than academic transitions. Although the writer attempts to separate advantages and disadvantages, the overall structure is fragmented and reads more like disjointed notes than an essay. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, and referencing is weak, with vague pronouns like 'These were some advantages'. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical. Based on the band descriptors, this reflects a level where information and ideas are not arranged cohesively enough to sustain a higher score, aligning closely with a band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with phrases like 'some advantages and also disadvantages', 'no need of human being', and 'AI mechanism'. There are noticeable limitations in word choice and collocation, such as 'not much powerful' instead of 'not very powerful' or 'unreliable'. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate the simple points the writer attempts to make. There are no examples of less common lexical items, and word formation is sometimes awkward. This performance fits the band 4 descriptor, where the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, occasionally straining the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited. The text consists mostly of simple or poorly connected clauses with missing punctuation and run-on structures, such as 'As we know if the cars ,buses and trucks are driverless there is no need of human being to drive the vehicles and also in emergency we don't need to find the person to travel for longer route .' Punctuation errors are frequent, particularly with spacing around commas and missing periods. Complex sentence forms are virtually absent, and the grammatical accuracy is poor throughout the short text. This demonstrates the characteristics of a band 4.0, where errors are frequent and sentence structures are very limited.
