Student answer (Band 6.0)
As technology is become a common part of our daily life these days, there are possibilities of driverless cars, buses, and trucks. The passengers will only be the ones present in these vehicles with no driver. As this is becoming a common concern for almost everyone, i personally believe the advantages of it do not overweigh the disadvantages because driving is a life-time responsibility and it is quite a discomfort to depend on a feelingless operator instead of a person.
Although, a driverless vehicle is beneficial in terms of independency and freedom. For instance, a person who lacks a driving license or is disabled will eventually find this a best alternative to reach at workplace in time. Also, he has to put zero energy towards it as the car will move by itself, taking to the desired location.
Consequently, there are some downsides of a driverless vehicle, comparable to the one with a driver is a sense of security and emotionless driving. For example, a person sitting in a driverless car will be more dependent on machine's awareness to avoid any road accidents, causing a full time discomfort on the road. Furthermore, there are possibilities of mishaps on the road, leaving the passenger only in trouble. Despite being a driver, the person himself is responsible for any thing happened while being in a traffic. The machine is not penaltied or hold accountable for such consequences.
As there are some guaranteed advantages to driverless vehicles, my opinion strongly approves that its drawbacks are more as compared to its benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, presenting a clear position that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Ideas are relevant, noting benefits such as independence and freedom for individuals without licenses or those with disabilities, alongside drawbacks like a sense of insecurity and accountability issues in the event of an accident. However, some arguments lack full extension and remain somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, the discussion regarding liability could be elaborated further with clearer legal or societal examples. Nevertheless, the prompt is adequately engaged with and a consistent stance is maintained throughout, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and disadvantages respectively, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate main ideas. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Although', 'For instance', 'Also', 'Consequently', and 'Furthermore', but their use is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, as seen in the sentence starting with 'Although, a driverless vehicle is beneficial...', which fragments the concessive clause. Referencing is generally clear, though minor transitional flaws disrupt the natural flow between sentences, aligning the text securely with Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrasing such as 'life-time responsibility', 'feelingless operator', and 'full time discomfort'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'is become' instead of 'is becoming', 'reach at workplace' instead of 'reach the workplace', 'penaltied' instead of 'penalised', and 'held accountable'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 5.5, as these errors occasionally create slight strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional ideas. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as tense usage ('As technology is become'), prepositional errors ('reaching at', 'in a traffic' instead of 'in traffic'), and missing articles. Additionally, run-on tendencies and punctuation slips occur, such as the missing space after the comma in 'cars, buses'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the writing from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.5 the most appropriate descriptor.
