Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern era, driverless vehicles, such as cars, buses, and trucks, are becoming more popular while all individuals travel as their passengers. Here, 'driverless vehicles' are defined as fully automated vehicles, even the driver is also made with robotic systems. It has more advantages than disadvantages because of the significant impact related to safety, timing, and economy. These concerns will be further discussed in the following paragraphs towards a conclusive decision.

One primary issue regarding the present day is that, with the advancement of technology, accidents are regrettably increasing due to the unruly behaviors of speedy and drunken drivers. Safety is the most important asset for human life. Unexpected accidents can result in sustaining lifelong injuries and life-threatening situations. However, the new automated system will control all the factors related to accidents.

On the other hand, most individuals are unsatisfied with the timing of transportation due to the waste of their time. Some personal behaviors of the drivers make road traffic a waste of everyone's time. However, it could be changed for the better with this new automated system.

Furthermore, highly efficient transportation systems significantly change the economy of the country. If there is an effective transportation system, it is one of the vital factors to raise the satisfaction of the employers. However, motivated people will prompt production to profitable margin. Therefore, the modern trend can make a positive turn in the economy.

In conclusion, factors such as safety, time concerns, and economic impacts are driving me to agree with the decision to convert all the new automated driverless system. This will provide valuable key factors for societal and economic development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, presenting a clear position that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the points regarding safety and economic impacts are introduced, they remain somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on general assertions rather than thorough extension. For instance, the paragraph addressing economic changes mentions efficient transportation raising employer satisfaction and boosting production, but these points are not fully linked back to how autonomous vehicles specifically drive this change. To reach a higher standard, the ideas need greater depth and more specific supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as safety and economic impacts. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or somewhat repetitive, particularly in how paragraphs are linked and how referencing is handled. Phrases like 'One primary issue regarding the present day' and 'On the other hand' are used to structure the text, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally feels disjointed. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices to weave the ideas together more smoothly and establish clearer overall progression throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items and topic-related terminology such as 'automated vehicles' and 'transportation systems'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation issues that signal this level, such as 'convert all the new automated driverless system' and 'unruly behaviors of speedy and drunken drivers', where phrasing feels slightly unnatural. Additionally, some minor lexical inaccuracies occur, though they do not impede overall communication. Expanding the range of precise vocabulary and mastering collocations would elevate the lexical quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that restrict the range to a limited repertoire. Examples include awkward phrasing and structural awkwardness such as 'while all individuals travel as their passengers' and issues with prepositions and articles. Attempts at complex sentences are sometimes faulty, leading to noticeable strain in readability. To achieve higher bands, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and exercise greater control over complex syntactic structures.
