Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task only partially and fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping at 221 words. While the writer presents a clear position on whether the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, the introduction states that the transition will enhance road safety and save time while acknowledging job displacement, but the body paragraphs fail to fully extend these points with deep explanations or comprehensive examples. To reach the next level, the writer needs to expand the length to meet the requirement and develop each main idea with more thorough supporting arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introduction and body paragraphs, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is noticeably disrupted by the incomplete concluding thought and abrupt ending of the text. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently repetitive, mechanical, or inaccurate, as seen in awkward transitions like 'The primarly advantage' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow between ideas feels disjointed. To improve, the writer should ensure each paragraph contains a logical sequence of well-linked sentences and that the concluding section is fully fleshed out to provide a sense of progression and closure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common terms such as 'autonomous technology', 'job displacement', and 'cybersecurity', but these are undermined by noticeable spelling and word choice errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'vechicle', 'completetly', 'primarly', 'techanicall', and 'un3empolyment'. Furthermore, there are awkward word formations and collocations like 'safe time' instead of 'save time' and 'driving under influence' missing an article. To move up, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use word forms more accurately, and pay closer attention to spelling and precise lexical collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple constructions alongside faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader, including subject-verb agreement issues ('vast majority of traffic collision is'), missing prepositions, and awkward clause structures like 'the monumental benefit this transition enhance'. Additionally, articles and plural forms are frequently mishandled, such as 'thousands live' instead of 'thousands of lives'. To progress, the writer needs to increase the variety of error-free complex sentences and maintain better control over basic grammatical agreements and punctuation.
