Student answer (Band 5.5)

The development of autonamous vechiles are transform the way of people travel, the cars, buses and trucks will be operated without driver. The strongly believe that, the vechiles should be driver has huge advantages.

The major advantage was reducing the accendents. In some cases the driver may drive must drive the vechile without rest, these could lead for accendent. On the other hand the the autonomus vechile should run by the internal vechile system, it should alert while driving vechiles, it has auto-decting objects and auto brake system many more safety features are in-build. Maping system is very useful while driving, in some areas network was very low, we unable to acces the internet for maps, but in driverless vechiles has the feature that offline map download opition, we can operate the map even we doesn't have internet access.

For example, i saw a viedo where some people test the autonamous vechile for safety, there set some speed to that vechile and at sudden dummy model was walking in front of that car, then the car was immediatly turn on the safety automatic system, at this point the vechile auto-stop without hitting the dummy. The another advantage was, we must reduce the expenses, it may the vechiles maintanes, driver salaries, and food expenses for the driver. The huge increase of driverless car can lead some people has job-less and it may lead to involve of hacking.

In conclusion, the autonamous vechiles can cause some troubles, but I believe their potential to improve road safety, accessibility and transportation efficiency makes their advantages greater than their disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, leading to a concluding position. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion around safety features and accident reduction relies heavily on repetitive points rather than well-extended arguments. The example provided about the dummy model testing is relevant and attempts to support the position, but the explanation lacks depth. Furthermore, the counter-argument regarding job losses and hacking is introduced very briefly in the third paragraph without sufficient elaboration. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to present fully extended ideas with clear supporting explanations and maintain a more thoroughly developed position throughout all body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic organizational structure with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, the overall progression of ideas lacks clarity, and the connections between sentences can feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are sometimes used inaccurately or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'On the other hand' or comma splices linking independent clauses. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow between concepts, as seen in the sudden transition from offline maps to safety examples in the second and third paragraphs. To achieve a higher standard, the writer must ensure that ideas follow a logical sequence and that cohesive devices are employed with greater precision to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'autonamous', 'vechiles', 'accendents', 'auto-decting', and 'job-less'. The writer attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'transportation efficiency' and 'accessibility', but these attempts are undermined by persistent spelling mistakes and incorrect collocations, such as 'must reduce the expenses' or 'involve of hacking'. To improve lexical scores, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, ensure accurate spelling of key terms related to the topic, and focus on correct word choice and collocations to convey meaning more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, such as 'The development of autonamous vechiles are transform' and 'the vechiles should be driver', as well as incorrect verb tenses and missing articles. Punctuation is also problematic, featuring multiple comma splices where independent clauses are incorrectly joined without proper conjunctions or full stops. To reach a higher standard, the writer must increase sentence structure variety and focus on mastering fundamental rules of grammar, including subject-verb agreement, clause structures, and accurate punctuation.
