Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt partially, expressing a clear personal position that driverless vehicles should not completely replace human drivers due to safety concerns. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For example, the student introduces a relevant point regarding convenience for individuals who cannot drive, such as a family member falling ill, but fails to extend this argument fully. Similarly, the counterargument regarding accidents is supported by a very basic, generalised personal anecdote rather than fully elaborated reasoning. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to expand on the implications of autonomous transport with deeper, more fully supported arguments and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organisation with basic paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, relying heavily on basic transition markers like 'On the first hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. Furthermore, referencing and logical transitions between sentences can be mechanical or unclear, such as the sudden shifts within the body paragraphs. To achieve a higher standard, the writer must use a wider range of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that ideas flow logically from one sentence to the next with smoother transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express basic ideas about technology and transport. There are noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and word choice throughout the response, such as 'techonolgy', 'inovation', 'driveless', and 'benifit', along with awkward collocations like 'got huge accident'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To improve in this area, the writer needs to broaden their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to standard spelling rules, and focus on using appropriate word forms and collocations in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside basic complex attempts that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, missing prepositions, and tense control, such as 'many new inovation are added', 'human facilities', and 'machines does not function properly'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer should practice using a wider variety of complex sentence forms accurately, paying careful attention to basic rules of grammar, plurals, and punctuation.
