Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the prompt minimally, attempting to discuss both advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, but the ideas remain heavily under-developed and disjointed. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement, containing only 215 words instead of the required 250 words. The student touches upon safety, speed, and unemployment, but these points are expressed in a fragmented manner without clear expansion or support. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop distinct body paragraphs with well-reasoned arguments, provide relevant examples, and ensure the essay meets the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The essay lacks proper paragraphing, presenting a single block of text that merges the introduction, advantages, and disadvantages together without logical transitions or clear progression. While the writer uses basic transitional markers like 'first of let talk' and 'but in other hand', these cohesive devices are inadequate and mechanical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of thought. To improve, the writer needs to structure the essay into clear, distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices to connect ideas logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing words like 'cars', 'future', and 'time' multiple times throughout the short text. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors that strain the reader, such as 'drive less' instead of 'driverless', 'tecnology', 'lahour', 'min', 'bacause', and 'heaked' for hacked. The range of vocabulary is limited to very common terms, and attempts at less common words result in noticeable inaccuracies. To progress, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct spellings, and use appropriate collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple, fragmented sentences with frequent grammatical errors that distort meaning. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, article usage, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as seen in phrases like 'we see tecnology development changes', 'cars will be drive less/because in future', and 'no a humaan is their only ai'. Punctuation is largely absent or misused. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate control over a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with significantly fewer errors.
