IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
in my opinion, driverless cars have pros and cons, the driverless cars pros will be that there will be no need of driver and if theres no driver then there will also be no salary for driver, 1 more seat for passnger in addition these cars will have a setup for going in their own desired lanes , these cars will not overtake anyother car and in that way there will be a very less chance of a traffic accident. Furthermore looking at cons , the people or the passangers travelling in these driverless cars will be scared because they will think that these cars not relielbe as there is no driver, one other disadvantage will be that the people from 90s will never prefer these driverless cars because they will have an issue with these cars , the reason to that is most of old people like to have conversation with drivers and if theres ni driver i dont think that they will travel in these cars, but this is my opinion , addition to i remember that one of my friend was travelling in these kind of cars and he had a road accident so it depends like rightnow i dont think so these cars are too much relieble but might be useful after some years because AI is getting advanced time to time so who knows.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response responds to the task only minimally, as it fails to reach the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping at 229 words. While the candidate attempts to present both advantages, such as eliminating driver salaries and reducing traffic accidents, and disadvantages, including passenger fear and the preferences of older generations, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. The position is stated rather than clearly sustained throughout, and the explanation of points lacks adequate extension, resulting in an underdeveloped treatment of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response lacks clear overall organisation and progression, with information and ideas presented in a single, block paragraph rather than distinct paragraphs for introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and at times inaccurate, relying heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or repetitive phrases such as 'one other disadvantage will be'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronouns referring back to earlier statements, which hinders the overall logical flow of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing simple words such as 'pros', 'cons', 'driver', 'car', and 'people' throughout the response. There are noticeable lexical errors and misspellings that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'passnger' instead of passenger, 'relielbe' and 'relieble' instead of reliable, and 'rightnow'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for conveying basic meaning, failing to demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical structures are very limited, consisting mostly of lengthy, run-on simple or poorly connected sentences linked together by commas rather than proper punctuation. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues ('these cars not relielbe'), and incorrect prepositions or clause structures ('the reason to that is'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and distort meaning in certain parts of the response.
